Retactable Seat Belt Adjustment

Posting to confirm there's no adjustment for the seat belt.

The seat belt on my 90 T4r works but does not retract fully, driver has to feed the belt to take up the slack. Removed the trim pieces and exposed the belt but does not appear there's any way to adjust to take up the slack? Intend cleaning the retracting mechanism and apply a lubricant but thought I would check before reassembling the trim?

Very helpful! Considering paying the $2 and practice next time I am near a salvage yard, it was the "caution" regarding the retractable spring unwinding that got my attention. Bookmarked the article, I thank You!!

While this may not solve the problem, sometimes just washing the belt helps. I have done this without dismantling. Just use a bucket in the 4Runner and use your favorite detergent/degreaser. I used Simple Green. It is not as effective as resetting the retractor, but it did help.

Greatly appreciate the information!!.

Surprised to find the task was not that involve: fully extended the belt, clamped it off then removed the bolt that secures the belt to the door pillar. Pulled the belt a couple inches, just enough to remove the pin from the belt loop then removed the belt. I then held and rotated the retracting mechanism to increase spring tension, then reassembled.

Certainly an improvement put there still a slight drag, thought about extending the belt approx. half way and add body power to the belt; perhaps cleaning would be a better alternative. Again, I thank you!
