Spring under? Because clearance.

Plus that's like a good 6-8 inches of lowering you're talking about there, he'd need an 8-10 inch lift spring in order to match the height he's got now.
 
I remember wanting to go with an IFS setup. I was gonna go 63's out back, and go for a nice IFS lift in front. I knew that CV's were relatively weak, and the travel with IFS is less than impressive.

I'm really happy I didn't half-ass it, and just went with the solid axle setup. I don't get out wheeling as much as I did last year, but a solid axle looks better, performs better, and has more support than Toyota IFS. It should be noted that a stock solid axle is nowhere near bulletproof, and better birfs, shafts, and gussets are a good idea for reliability/durability.

I would think a 3" TG kit wouldn't sit much (if any) higher than your current lift, if you're already on 35s. If you're worried about what the extra height will do to your stability, getting some better offset wheels will help a lot.

FWIW: I have a 26" frame height on the TG 4" kit, Chev 63's w/ 3" blocks, and 35" tires.

If you went with the tallest kit, roughly 6" of lift, then put the axles on top, I bet it would be right about stock height or slightly over. I still don't see why anyone would want to do it, but like I said, just thinking out loud. When Jeeps do a spring-over lift, they gain about 4", so just do that in reverse.

Again, not a stability issue. I just don't like the look when it is up that high. Its established that it is possible to do an SAS and stay low, now we just have to figure out the best way.

I rode in Bob's old 2nd gen and that things was lifted to the sky (to fit that beast of a 350). It had no stability issues. I just want to be low. Maybe I just need to build a low rider?

If I were you, I'd just get the parts from sky's off road or something similar. Don't go with a kit, that way you save money by not buying parts you don't want.

Does your axle currently have the stock steering attached?

Also, with there only being one set of spring bushings for the rear instead of two (upper and lower), how does that affect the flex? It will obviously put a LOT more stress on the bushings and the bearings may get a lot of wear and tear (premature failure).

Yeah that's a buddy of mines 4runner and the slider boxes flat out work. It helped keep him low and he still gets a lot of flex considering he's using leafs and not links. However if I were DDing the rig I would consider a differnt option mostly because of wear and tear on the rollers (he actually replaced the rollers for Big plastic peaces which work better but still wear out after a few trips).

My opinion on anything I build is I want it to be low. Here's a build I did on an old 85 4runner I had 85 4runner Low ridin on 37's build - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

You sound like you aren't all that unhappy with the amount of flex you have just more so unhappy with the IFS being a potiental weak link (if I'm understanding what I've read above) so I'd SAS it and use stock springs and trim a little fender. It would keep you low, give you more flex than you currently have, and give you the added strength you want up font. Hope some of this helps and if not pretend I was never here.

Exactly. I can/will/have cut fenders. I'll cut the body up all day in an effort to stay low. The problem I face with keeping IFS is the damage to the idler arm, pitman arm and TRE's.

SO if we build it at pretty much the height it is now, we have to build it with down travel, but build bump stops to prevent the up travel?

Yes, definitely have bump stops to limit the uptravel and we'll have a minimal arch in your springs when sitting level so you can have maximum down travel.

So when do we start cutting?

Soon. I'm thinking of pulling it in to the garage after Rainbow Falls and tearing out the IFS. It will probably spend some time there.
