Retrofit kit questions from TRS

Here's some more info to confuse you!

D2S is always better to go with than H1. H1 is an aftermarket invention more or less and D2S is an OEM equipment bulb. The advantages of the D2S are insane. Widely available OEM ballasts and bulbs much better than Morimoto, although morimoto are very good, top of the line aftermarket equipment. IMO the 3" D2S also takes up the space of our headlight much better, the mini H1's tend to have smaller shrouds and look like of like chameleon eyes to me...

This is a killer chart made by a prolific retrofitter, Cesar of Lightworkz Global. His company is one of the best if not the best on the market and he's known for giving dubious amounts of advice and information out for free to anyone who asks even if it's not in his best business interest. This details the different projectors at the bottom, and well as different bulb and blast combinations, this is about as scientific as someone can get with this kind of testing and he is as mentioned a very trustworthy source and has no conflict of interest with regards to the sales of any of the products (he only installs).

The D2S (especially the 4.0) is far superior to the H1. In fact, the D2S 4.0 puts my old FXRs to shame.

You may find some old posts about how the H1 and D2S are essentially the same, but I am fairly certain that's not the case anymore. Having had hands-on experience with both, I cannot believe that.
[MENTION=102266]SRQ-Runner[/MENTION] do you guys have some sort of jig built to perfectly align the cutoff? I had one I was using (based off of my 4Runner) but even with it the cutoffs never seemed to be perfect once on the end-user's vehicle.

The D2S is definitely a step up from the H1 kit and for the little money difference, definitely worth it in my book. Comparing a 50w H1 kit to a 35w D2S kit gets you alittle closer but I still feel the D2S wins.

We don't use a jig for our lights and haven't had any problems with people adjusting the cutoff lines. The only issue we've found are people who have alot of rake (2"+). The stock adjustment knobs don't allow for enough upwards angle and two people have had to add little shims to get the headlight angle up enough for their liking. With that being said, I haven't personally seen those vehicles and they could have them angled too high. Besides that we've had nothing but great reviews from our customers.

The 3.0 simply does not compare to the 4.0, especially with regard to the high beams.

Outside of the high beams, the 4.0s have a much wider spread and their "cutoff" is more horizontal where the 3.0 kinda slopes off as you get to the end of their output. The "hot spot" at the middle of the beam is also noticeably brighter.

The high beam cutoff is what does it for me though.

To the guys who have built tons of these, which shrouds fit with out cutting in the 3rd gen housing? Does the Panamera shroud fit with out cutting?

I really like these, but do you have any pics of the install and comments about the wiring? My weak area is the wiring and this is what I'd like, but idk if I'm up for the wiring.

I'll have to find my wiring diagram. It's a little over complicated based on the way I went about things with all the LED's and switchbacks in this retrofit...

The actual bulb wiring is beyond simple. The motocontrol h4 specific kit from TRS is painfully simple to install as it is all plug and play other than 2 grounds and a battery lead.

All the white LED's are hooked into the parking light circuit so they come on when the headlight stalk it clicked once. The amber LED's are all hooked to the turn signals and the white LED's kill when the turns are activated the ambers then flash and when the turn signal is clicked off they white come back on after a 2-ish second delay. This is based on my use of a set of morimoto switchback drivers which wire both the running light and turn signals in and then send them back out to wherever you want creating the switchback effect by disabling the white based source when the amber source is activated.

The panamera switchbacks don't have a high low mode but the current morimoto halos do iirc.

Using the threaded shaft mounting method yes, it is a tight fit the bottom is under a little pressure but mine are untrimmed.

Without cutting the housing? You should be trimming the shroud to fit, not the housing.
My Panamera shrouds fit with minimal trimming. I used tin snips to trim the shroud, and they worked awesome [emoji1360] I had to trim about 1/4-3/8" off each side of both shrouds.

As you can see, I could have trimmed less. I wanted the even gap, that's why I trimmed the amount I did. The shrouds are all made oversized to work with a wide range of retrofits, and designed to trim. The material is extremely soft and easy to trim.

On the few Panamera shrouds I have installed I have always cut the bottom "chunk" out (it will make sense if you buy them) in order to prevent scuffing the paint or chrome overtime.

I have used the Bullet shrouds about a dozen times and have only had to trim them once or twice. Love the simple "OEM" look of them too.

Thanks for all the info guys. Placed my order today for the 4.0's with panamera shrouds with the LED's. Also got a HID kit for my 5th gen while I was at it. I am sure I will have questions when it comes time to install everything.

I ran a square-lens D2S 3.0 (they haven't released the 4.0 square lens), I didn't do any shroud trimming and had mounting tabs that snapped onto the lens holder notches, didn't require any JB Weld etc. As far as I know all the shrouds for these projectors are the same depth regardless of design.
