Background time. in 2005 I was an owner of an 2001 F150. I had had it for 5 years and thought I was happy. That is, until I drove my step dad's 2000 Tundra. At 145,000 miles, it had over double the miles as my F150, yet it was still rock solid and drove beautifully. (it still does at over 200K) That was it, my F150 now felt like a boat. I now understand why my daughter's boyfriend previously asked me why it drives like it does. (His parents drove Tundra and Lexus)

Now that I had seen how the other half lived the wife and I went to Toyota to "look". The new tundras had not made it yet so the sales man put us in a 05 sr5 4runner 4x4. Sold

Love was the word I had for it. I had never wanted to put any money improving or adding to a vehicle before. I actually kept it clean, lol. My son pointed out to me yesterday, on the way back from the dealership, how we talk about it like it was our best dog that died. We loved it so much that when it was time to trade in the wifey’s ride, we ended up with an 06 sport.

All was right with the world, then divorce. We had to trade the white one due to payments. I ended up with the sport. While it’s nice and I like it and all, it wasn’t the white 4x4, fore the sport was 2wheel only.

The ex wife turned in the camry we traded the white 4runner for, thus dinged the hell out of my credit so I couldn’t trade the sport. But there again is light. The lease I have on the sport is at it’s end, and I am finally in position to buy. In fact, I pick it up from the dealer Monday or Tuesday when it arrives at the dealer from the port of Houston.

So, once upon a time, I posted here. So technically I am not totally new, I may as well be though. With my beloved 4x4 4runner gone, I no longer felt worthy, even though I still had a 4runner. I just didn’t have the pride I had for my first one. This week; however, the errors of the past will be washed away when I pick up new baby.

Anyway, I'm back and and I look forward to doing more than lurking in the shadows as the new 4runner takes shape.

So the new one came in earlier than I thought, so I picked it up last night.

First impression, this thing is certainly more robust, or hoss, than my previous sport. Got on the freeway, and was surprised at how it seemed to drive itself. Bumps are barely noticable. I think it rides better than my mother's GX 470.

It is just so much more comfortable than my previous 4runners, with more room where it's needed. I no longer have to move the seat all the way back to almost be comfortable.

Boy, I certainly didn't think the first thing I was gonna have to do was roof rack. No crossbeams? That's insane.

Anyway, I'm wasting daylight. Gotta go drive... somewhere.

Welcome.....back!

The new ride looks awesome! I remember my first impression of driving a 4Runner too. I jumped into a 7 year old, 100K mile '96 (which I ended up buying) and it felt way more tight and new than the 2 year old, 30K mile Grand Am I was driving at the time. I was amazed and haven't turned back since.

Sorry to hear about seperation but glad to hear the vehicle front is working out good for you!

Thanks for the welcome back. I was wondering if I had wasted my time.

At the time I got my first 4runner, we had bought a ford Escape not even a year prior. It was already a rattle trap. I had been stuck with honda since my second car. But they didn't have a truck. So I jumped to Ford. The lesser of the three evils at the time. So when I drove the toyota, I was really surprised.

Loving the new ride. I'm in scheming mode as to what to do to it. I've already washed it, which is almost un heard of for me. Then again it is raining oak pollen here in Houston.
