Reverse Camera Install Question

So I just picked up a reverse camera and was wondering what the best way to run the wiring from the outside to inside the cabin is. Also where do I need to hook up the 12v source for the camera to come on when a put my vehicle in reverse. Thanks

I ran my video cable through the little hole that the rear hatch handle goes into the hatch (just look inside there while pulling on the handle, it will make sense). I ran power to the back side of the cigarette lighter plug in the rear cargo area.

You got me all confused now...why did you run the 12v source to the outlet? I assumed it needed to go to the reverse lights? Also, once your ran the cable to inside the rear hatch, where did you go from there to get inside the cabin? Pics would be great!
 
If you remove the taillight, you can run the cable up there. I tapped camera power to the reverse lightbulb. I mounted my camera on the left side of the hitch.

Ya, I was going to remove the taillights inorder to tap into the reverse lights, but what I am really wondering is where to run the wire from the tailgate into the cabin? Also, I got a Boyo reverse camera which uses the top two holes of my licsense plate to mount it.
 
I just wired mine to be constantly on, my head unit has the ability to use the camera when not in reverse, I use this feature a lot when I am towing. It can just as easily be wired to the reverse lights if you want the camera to power on only when you are in reverse. I will take a picture of my wire runs as soon as I can. Also, my reverse camera mounts to my license plate as well.
 
Dont worry about the pics..I got it figured out. The biggest pain in the asss was getting it mounted because the bolts have to pass through (not thread in) then a locking washer and nut goes on the back side. Nobody is stealing this puppy, thats for sure! I just followed the factory wiring to gain access into the cabin. I going to wait to wire it into my head unit untill sometime later on this week because I am also installing headrest monitors as well and I dont really feel like pulling out the head unit twice. I will post pics once i get everything finished. Thanks again for all the help.

Updated...well, I was able to find a drill bit that wasn't broken. So I drilled a small hole for the wire to pass threw behind the camera.

I like that camera set up. I've seen one other similar to that on a G35 in the work parking garage... Now if only I could justify purchasing a replacement head unit to receive the video...
 
Looks very similar to mine, and I definitely feel you on pulling the head unit twice... What T.V.'s did you go with?

Ah c'mon, I pulled the head unit for the first time the other day (without any experience, just what I have read and seen here) and it took me maybe 20 minutes. I actually found it kind of fun.

Anyways, I'm looking into getting a rear view camera since I have lifted my truck - I read that you only need to plug it to a 12V source and the back of the head unit - does this mean the camera is always on? How does it automatically switch on when in reverse, as that site says? Could you just tap into the reverse light?

Is it "hurt" camera in the long run if it is constantly on? What I meant "hurt" is reduce the "live" of the lens/camera.

Well, I ended up haing to send the camera back due to the fact that I could not recieve a video feed from it. I tested it with two other monitors as well, and nothing.So I sent it back and I should have a replacement next.
I ended up going with these monitors TVIEW 7" BEIGE HEADREST MONITORS+VIDEO GAMES+2 HEADSETS - eBay (item 390105504166 end time Dec-12-09 00:47:21 PST)
I am very happy with them! They match up to the interior ok, they are a little bit litter in color than the stock headrest. The picture quality is amazing plus they came with wireless IR headphones so that I dont have to listen to "My Friends Tigger and Pooh" for the 200th time! The video game controllers come with 29 games which are old nintendo games. Here are a couple of quick pics. The monitors where much easier to install then the damn reverse camera.

JL 250/1 amp...I had a 12W1 which couldn't handle the amp, plus the 12 was taking up to much room. so Thats another reason I decided to get the vehicle specific enclosure by Q Logic. W7's are badass, but thats way more sub then I'll ever need, plus they need alot of air space! I am looking at getting some JL component speakers soon 6.5 w/ tweeters for the front and 5.25 for the rear.
