so my reverse lights arent working. I have a 1991 4runner v6 with a manual transmission. I know its either the fuse or the switch on the transmission. Does anyone know where the fuse is in the car or under the hood? Thanks

the fuse would control more that just the reverse light, so if everything else still works its probably the tranny switch. I just had to replace mine its really easy.

Do you know where the fuse is so i can check it? and what side of the tranny is the switch on? is there a way to tell if the switch is out?

The b/u light switch is stop front pass side. From the schematic it looks like it works off of the GAUGE fuse.

They were not working on my '90 when I got it then I switched out the rusted tailgate and like magic everything works, pop off the carpet and metal covers and do a visual check on the connections inside the door before you dig any deeper.

the way i tested mine is to unplug the connector to the reverse switch on the transmission, plug in a continuity tester and put the trans in reverse. If you dont get continuity, the switch is bad.

I dont have one of those continuity testers so I just put the trans in reverse, turned the ignition key to ON, pulled the plug off the reverse light switch, and shorted the wires on the plug with another small piece of wire.

If the reverse lights come on ok, you know the switch it buggered. If not, then the issue is in the wiring or relay/fuse whatever.
