Reverse lights. Not bright enough

Do you guys find that the reverse light is not bright enough on the 4runner?

There are a number of threads on installing replacement bulbs, and also under-bumper lights. I went with a set of LED's, then the brighter Sylvania bulbs, and although an improvement, they still aren't very bright. I ride my brake a little while backing up, the LED's in my brakes are pretty bright.

Added a set of 12.95 a harbor frieght blue/yellow fog lights there are not so great out put but 100% better than any bulb replacement!!!

I went with these units from V-Leds:

5K WHITE 19 LED 8W HIGH POWER BULBS 917 918 920 921 922 923 579 | 1 PAIR B/O


...and they're a pretty huge improvement over stock for sure. Nothing like mounting a dedicated LED light bar somewhere, but they sure do help things back there. Spendy, but worth it.

I tried led in the reverse lights, they appear to be white but they are not bright at all, u must add some back up fogs or better yet have that and put hid reverse lights, i have em and its bright. Althought the lens are a lil tinted from factory, its not much of a help if u do leds. I been there and done that, save up on a hid reverse kit if u want the brightest. I have some pics to show on what i did to my 4runner page.

I picked up some 55w white fog lamps from Walmart. I originally mounted them about 12" on each side of the factory hitch. They help quite a bit, but I think they needed to be moved outboard. Last weekend, I installed a hidden hitch. That casued me to have to relocate my lights. I ended up putting them behind each wheel well using the existing bolt on the bottom of the side panel of the bumper and using the single middle mount hole on the bracket. Now when you put it in reverse and look in the mirror, I get much better light in the area most helpful. You still need to follow the threads on how to do this using a relay etc. I pulled the reverse trip from the trailer hitch wiring and the 12V from the rear auxillary. If I were to do it again, I would pull the 12V from the from battery or fuse box. Best regards, Doug
