Reverse Lights

Where do i tap in the wire to have aftermarket reverse lights come on when the truck is in reverse and how do you splice them?

take a volt meter at the big bundle of wires on the drivers side kick panel on the floor see which one comes on and off when put into reverse

i dont have one of those.... cant you just splice into the - and + wires right at the reverse bulb in the tail light housing?

yes you can.

yea you can if you wanna run all that wire back there a test light is like 5 bucks

also i hope your not gonna hook the lights up with out a relay to the backup lights if you do thats too much power for stock lights and will burn things up

i ran a fused wire to the tail light and grounded the other wire to the frame.

idk how to add fuses and everything. i really want to rig 4 back up lights (2 on the roof and 2 under the back bumper) to a switch so i can turn them on when i want.

ok if you wanna turn them on as need be wire them up useing 2 relays the green wire can be wired to any 12v hot

Why are you using the relay? I'm going to be wiring auxiliary rear lights (2) using a switch control. Are you recommending the relay due to the current draw from 4 lights?

any autoparts store if you dont want things to catch on fire use a relay

Did the lights come with a wiring diagram? Usually they give you an example setup and most connect straight to the battery. If you do run straight to the battery then I would recommend the relay. If you run off the fuse box then you don't necessarily need the relay. With either setup you will have to select the appropriate fuse. You should calculate the current draw before deciding on which method to use. If in doubt, find someone with a similar setup and follow their wiring.

can i use an inline fuse spliced into the wire? and also can i just connect all 4 lights to one wire and just run a big inline fuse to the switch then run wire from the switch to the battery??

how about tapping into the trailer harness? got a hitch on that thing?

it should be able to handle the power of fogs...just use a test light and figure out what terminal is for the reverse lights and tap into that
