RG79's SR5 Build Thread

We're gonna see 35s with those beadlocks right?

Close, I am looking at some 285/75-17 which is considered a 34" tire. There would need to be a lot of modification done in order to fit a 35, shoot I have done a ton of work just to fit 34's and I still think they'll rub at full compression.

Speaking which the tires I originally wanted toyo at2 are on national backorder with no eta. So now I am considering the toyo mt's or the nitto trail grapplers. All in the 285/75-17 size.

Any input/advise from anyone???..........

I'd vote for Toyo MT in 285/75/17 or Goodyear MTR in 305/70/17

I was looking at the Toyos but was told they were on back order. That is why I went Nitto Trail Grapplers. Next set probably go with the Toyos.

I don't think you can wrong either way. Nitto and Toyo both make great tires. My nitto terra grapplers have been great, I just want to do something different. I'll check availability mañana but, I've already found some on amazon which is where I bought my Nitto tg' s

Loved my nitto trail grapplers when I had them on the fjc. Balanced good and the road noise was way better then other tires in that category. They are heavy so be expecting a drop in mpg. On trails they were great! Lower psi to 10lbs and it doesn't even phase them. Super strong walls.

They will be my next set once my bfg's go out.

Great build on the audio system. This interest me more then the off-road threads. Sorry to see your truck totaled.

I get that this is an old thread. I have only been in a 5th gen for 30 days now.

This! Also for what its worth, Nitto is made by Toyo, and I heard recently that Nitto just started using the same tire compound as the Toyo MT

Yes sir, you are correct. Same company. The nitto g2's are now the same compound as the toyo at2's. I would assume the same goes for the mt/trails. Just pick a tread design at this point.

Found some 285/75 Toyo MT's for around $350 a tire. Should have them tomorrow and mounted on my KMC's by Friday.

OK, Here we go............

Should have all this on the truck by Saturday afternoon. I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited about it. I'll post some more pics when I'm done putting them on.

Oh, and I also just ordered some custom rear springs from CSS thanks Gabex35 for recommending them. Those guys are no joke. The rear spring specs are 1 1/4" lift driver side 1" lift passenger with a 8% spring rate increase which is 205 lb's per inch.

Did I give you those specs or is that what CSS is recommending now?

That worked well for my FJ but with my TEP it had the opposite lean and was a differential of about .5"

To be fair, a .5" isn't a big deal. I was just anal about it.

If I had ordered them again, I would have gone with 1" and 1.5".

They didnt really recommend anything they basically just make what ever you want.

I actually based my order off of the factory spring specs. Our 4runners have the same part # for both the driver & passenger side. I figured since I was ordering custom springs I might as well try and offset the lean. I had an ome 10mm spacer on my 2011 that helped out a lot. I almost went for the .5" difference but figured I would just do .25 to keep em close.

The factory spring rate works really well with my rear Icon omega bypass shocks so I just went a hair stiffer. I just wanted to increase the ride hight a bit and I also don't carry a ton of gear so I think this will be a good fit. If not I can just order another set, what a steel, $250 for custom coil springs.

I am right there with ya .5" would drive me effing crazy! I try and get it down to the 1/8" if possible. I think these new springs should help

Thanks for the referral, I am excited to get these on. They said 4 weeks

I might also order the Icon rear air bump to pair with these. we'll see tho

Can't wait to see that rim and tire combo mounted!

Ya me either.........

Are you going to use dyna beads for balancing?

No I believe just standard weights on the inner lip or the wheel. I'm having them mounted and balanced at a local alignment shop that specializes in off road vehicles. They have done their fair share of beadlock wheels. I think you have to own a jeep with 37's as a prerequisite to work their.
