Rhino Rack Foxwing awning

I've searched using several different word combos, but have had zero results except "these look nice". Does anybody in here have one of these on your 5th Gen? If so can you tell me what you used to mount it? I'm really interested in one, but I'm not sure if a standard awning mount for a Baja Rack will fit it. I'd also like to know how durable the hinge mechanism is. Thanks in advance.

The GX470 we sponsored had one of these and it was very well thought out. It had an awning section that even wrapped around to the back of the truck.

We were in Arizona with wind gusts up to 45MPH and the awning held up great. You can probably hit up the owner on facebook and ask him all about it, I'm sure.

I drive an '85, do I look like I'd rock a Batwing? I have a canvas tarp and two poles, cost me less then $50 and takes me about two minutes longer to set up than all you glampers with your ARBs and Batwings and things.

I kid - Batwings are a neat concept, and if I could afford one I'd have it.

I have finally reached an age and time when I can afford the nice things I did without for so long. Why not indulge? All I have to do is figure out if it will mount to a Baja Rack before I order one. After the SS hybrid bumper of course.... :thumb:

Talked to Rhino rack today. It looks like I'll have to adapt the Baja Rack brackets to fit if I go this route.

Won't your rear hatch contact the poles on the awning if it's open? I looked into this as well and have decided to go a different direction. Any way it looks pretty awesome for us Glampors!imp:

Good question and I'm not sure. It was one of my questions also. But I have seen pictures of LX's with their hatches open under it. I know the rear most pole goes pretty much flush with the back of the mount and across the roof, and is the highest pole on the hinge. So it could simply be a matter of how far forward you mount it on the rack. Each of the poles is almost 8' long so clearance between the poles shouldn't be a problem.

Any more info on the wrap around awnings

I really want one of these wrap around awning styles but repeated internet searching just gets responses that it won't work because the hatch on 5th gen forerunners and and spoiler thing on the back stick up too high....

I suppose you could just leave the hatch down but that would kind of be a pain for trail gating and relaxing but it does have the roll down window so I guess you could just roll it down and grab a beer.

I was also thinking you would use a high tech device commonly referred to as a string to rig something to hold the hatch just low enough to use the awning and then since the truck is lifted pretty high you might still have enough room, but after looking at the hatch and how much I would have to pull it down I don't think will work, the 5th gen hatch is really curved

But when the hatch is open it really sticks up pretty damn high so maybe you could rig the awning with a custom bracket the would hold it a bit lower so that you simply open the hatch and open the awning under the hatch...

I am also considering just trying to make something custom out of wood...

Yeah I'm really curious to how you open the hatch with this thing all the way open, which it has to be all the way open for you to use it. No photos yet??
