**Rickashay's OME vs. TRD Tundra/LC Review**

This post is word for word about how I feel towards the OME setup. Wish I had researched more before I installed that kit. I'm working on a toytec coilover/LC lift now to soften everything up. The harsh OME rear end just feels unsafe on the road. Great info! Thanks

Updated the first post with some new adjusted measurements. Looks like the truck has settled most in the last few months. Really happy with how it sits as I like to keep it as low as possible.

btw not sure if its just me, but from 2 differnt computers, home and work i was looking at your other thread with that DOPE porsche video. and its erroring out the bottom half of your page now...
ill try get a screenshot but i can comment or read anything below that video it screwed up the scripting i think HAHA
but yup figure i put it here

this is what happens :(
and yes at work i went through print screen button, to MS paint, to photobucket, to back to this thread for you.

YAH! That's the issue I'm having too. How do i correct it?!!? I can't edit the post so I'm lost...... I do love that Porsche video though. Thanks for the screenshot! Hopefully someone will see this and help me out! haha

Glad it wasn't just me who was experiencing that! I blame vimeo.com. See if a mod can delete the post for you or something. Then you can maybe just post a LINK next time addison!!!!! LOL

Hey Rickashay,

Where did you get the shocks from? Was it in Canada?

Do you have a part number or direct link?

Thanks

Got them from DownSouthMotorsports. There is a link on the first post. I have most of my parts shipped to a US address that's 45 mins from my house. I just drive down to the states all the time and pick them up. Then I can take advantage of the "free shipping within the USA" deals.

Bumped again for new adjusted measurements. I don't know what I was smoking when I got my last measurements but they were WAY off. I went out tonight, leveled the truck properly and used a more "scientific" method of getting a more accurate measurement.

As seen on page 1:
F:22.75"
R:24.25"

Newb question....

Rickashay, you got me sold on the Tundra TRD coil lift! Great write up man thanks....
the only thing i havent found on T4R (and i've done a million searches) is if anybody is using aftermarket UCA's with this lift to avoid interference's with the stock UCA and the bigger tundra coil??? i read that some guys have interference and some don't.... to fix they rotate the coil.... or add limit straps.... etc.
i dont understand why some would want put limit strap and reduce droop travel.

Yah you seem to have a good grasp on the concept. In reality a limit strap is a better way of doing it as then it is the limited factor in your travel and not your shocks. It's not such a problem now but I bet when I get new UCA's I'm going to have more droop and could end up with some interference issues. At that point I may be forced to do the limit straps as well. I've read that the Tundra TRD/Bilstein combo up front has similar extended and compressed lengths and travel numbers as the Icon Ext. coilovers. So your getting a decent amount of travel here. (sorry I wish I had bookmarked where I read that info..... )

Why did you use two different types of lc coils. I noticed the color code is different in the picture. Is there a reason for that?

gas tank is on the left side. one is probably taller

Yup, nailed it. That's how the LC coils come...

what notch are your bilsteins currently on up front.

3rd notch up front but I wont go any higher. IF I decide I want more front height, I'll be doing a Toytec top plate spacer.

ehhh. kinda. off of an lc yes. sonoran steel kit no. both coils are the same color. i'm gonna run the front bilsteins in the 2 inch setting so i'll post here once that happens. should save the cv's theoretically.

I pulled my rear shocks straight off a LC before they went onto my 4Runner. I would assume Toyota ran different springs per side, despite what Sonoran uses in the aftermarket..... The driver and the gas tank (both potentially heavy items) are on the drivers side so it makes sense (to me anyways) to have a longer shock on that side to compensate. I'd be interested to see if Sonoran's are the same length coils on both sides? And if so, why they would be equal? Curious...

I used to have my setup on the 2nd perch. It road great and the CV angles were super mellow. I only went to the 3rd notch to compensate for when I installed my bumper/winch. I am sitting at around the same lift height now on the 3rd perch, as I was before on the 2nd perch sans bumper/winch. My CV angles are still prime and I intend to keep them that way if possible. I really think having their "neutral" operating position near OEM should definitely increase their lifespan. You still do need to be careful at full-droop and lock but....

Okay so the plan is for me to get this set of 9-Wrap Land Cruiser Coils and Brand New Trekmaster Shocks for 200$ off this guy. For the front what do I need and where do I get it? I could eventually switch the rear for and new shock set but its not needed. The rear also gives me a 4.5ish" lift.

QUICK REPLY PLEASE NEED TO KNOW IF ITS A GOOD BUY!

THANKS

Not trying to be rude, but everything you asked is on the first page of this thread, if your asking about what you need for the front. If your asking if $200 is a good buy for the whole rear setup, I would say that's not bad but depends on condition and mileage. I don't have Trekmaster's or 9 wraps in the rear so I won't comment directly. Although I have driven a truck with an almost identical setup to that, and it was very nice, just slightly more firm than my personal rear setup.

There are several options of what you could do with the front to match your 9 wraps and Trekmaster rear setup, but this thread is about my personal experiences with my old OME front setup vs. my new TRD coil/Tundra Bilstein front setup. A little reading goes a long way!

GL on your new suspension setup!!
