Rigid Light Bar Issue

Was hoping someone could give me their 2 cents on an annoying issue I have had with my Rigid light bar for some time now.

As you can see in the picture, there is a small section on the far right which will periodically turn off. It is always the same section. I thought at first it was a faulty light so I replaced it and the issue persists.

When the vehicle is running, however, this section never turns off - only when the ignition is off.

I have checked all of my connections and they seem fine. Any ideas?

Replace the battery.
 
Well that would make too much damm sense, now wouldn't it?

Well, you could start by fully charging your existing battery with a plug-in wall charger. Even the cheap ones are electronic now and will fully charge your battery as long as it's not damaged.

If you take lots of short trips all the time your battery voltage may be really depleted. It takes time for the alternator to charge it fully.

i was running a long distance on too small a wire so i wasn't getting enough juice to the light. once i stepped up the size, the problem went away.

for details, i was running my wire from an spod under the hood, into the cabin to the back, through the roof, and then back to the front of my rack. not sure what your details but i would look into wire size.

[MENTION=77370]Gabex35[/MENTION] Did you swap out the wiring in you Gobi rack as well? And if so, how hard was that? That is the only wire gauge I am not sure about. Everything else I used should have been enough.

I never used the gobi wiring but if you did that may be your problem. its pretty thin stuff.

if you look at the photos on my build page post #57 i think you'll see that my light did the same. it was the section furthest away from where harness goes into light bar extrusion.

Hi Kevin,

This is just a hunch, but in edition to what others have suggested wrt the battery's power supply... I'd be willing to bet that the partitioned lighting components that make-up that entire, rather long, LED bar may have it's power supply wiring in a 'Daisy chain configuration'; some being connected to a 'HOT AT ALL TIMES' power supply from under the hood, and that last one on the far right, being fed (independently) by an intermittent power supply which is controlled by the ignition switch... this may also apply to the Ground side (NEG) wiring as well.

So once you've performed a proper health check regarding your battery's state of charge and it's ability to hold a sufficient charge, I might re-check my wiring (both POS & NEG sides), and find out if there is more than one power supply regarding that bastardized portion of the lamp that goes out when the ACC switch is shut-off! ^This, I can remember at least two or three other members with this issue and it was too small of wiring gauge.
 
Everyone has given great info, start with battery voltage at the battery. I am sure as I have ripped out wiring that my friends have put in, that the supplied wiring that was given to you by rigid is too small. Here is the chart that I use to figure out what size wire to run. Anything smaller will result in % lower voltage than whats at the battery. Doing some napkin math, Volts x Amps=Watts 12v x ? amps = ~50watts not sure if that is the specs. 4.2amps would be your draw. Having run a few lightbars to that location you are looking somewhere in the range of 10feet of wire. According to the chart 18gauge minimum.
