Ripcord, awesome build. I would love to add an SC and 7th. Nice to see you just get into it and not *****foot around beforehand. I would be a bit nervous digging in that far, but your write-up makes it seem not actually that hard.

It really wasn't hard, the instructions awere really long and thorough.. kind of intense. Luckily I have such abilities and summarizing and common sense. Made it much easier!

It really is as simple as: Old junk off, replace with new junk in same place.

EDIT... just so you know 'Rip, I was just messing with ya. Your 4Runner seriously is wicked. I was out of town for the Puerco thing, but I'll make it out there w/you guys someday.

One of these days! I hope so, its a ton of fun, I learned about a bunch of new obstacles again too! I'm gonna have to start writing all of them down soon. And man, that S/C REALLY helps in the arroyos!

There was one point that we lined up all the trucks in a wide section of the arroyo and raced.. I did "well".


And thanks, I think that even with our small NM 4runner population, we have quite a few really neat trucks!

Best "Awesome 4Runners -to- people" ratio on the site, I'd say.

I still have a lot of catching up to do though! Cat-back is next.. After that radio thing.

Panhard drop bracket:

Did you buy another Panhard bar....or just have a new drop bracket installed???

All I did there was weld on the bracket, no new bar or anything.

Im not sure where you got 2W from, but the uniden has 4W and the speaker is capable of up to 8W. But yes, I can easily hear it over the running engine..

I agree though, its not much. An amplified speaker is definitely on the list.

Mine are the eye-eye ones Toytec sells with the adapter. The part number is 6253-H5.

See this chart:
6251-H5 are the stock size, except for the eye-eye part.
6252-H5: (the ones I won in that raffle a month back) are for 2-3" lift applications.
6253-H5: (which I currently have) are for 3" lift applications.

Well what radio do you have? I assume you are talking about the Uniden PRO520 XL?


My box says 4W output.

This had me intrigued.. Upon further searching I noticed this site:

Notice how, under specifications, it says that..
Transmitter Output Power: 4 watts

and lower down it says:
Audio Output Power: 7 watts max. into 8 ohms

I guess that means it has different wattage for the actual transmitting on the radio as it does with just the public address feature. Which means I am running at 7 watts with the PA.. and the speaker is capable of up to 8 watts.

The more you lift the rear of the truck, the more the axle shifts to the passenger side. 3" of lift can see about .5-1" of displacement.

This is becuase of the panhard bar. Its simple geometry. Think of the panhard bar as the hypotenuse of the triangle. When the Hyp stays constant and you increase the length of one of the legs of the triangle (being the vertical leg when you lift) it causes the other leg to become shorter. And that pulls the axle over.

The panhard drop returns the panhard bar to stock or near-stock geometry to keep the rear axle centered.

Thanks, Toytec has them on their site, but they don't mention the part numbers. A guy is selling a pair of them for $40, but one is 52 and the other is 53, so I'm not sure that will work. I'm at 3.25" now, but the back hasn't settled much.

Hmm.. that's a tough call. but for $40.. Do they have the adapters? Because those are like $45 if you have to buy them separate.


Yeah, if you go through toytec, be sure to have them be sure they are both the 53's. I didn't ask becuase I didnt think there was a size so close in length. But now that I know, I'd ask for sure.

Don't you have the Sonoran Steel 1.2 Ameining??? You should have an adjustable panhard bar under there, which would make getting a panhard drop bracket COMPLETELY redundant.

Yes I do, good memory. I do have the adjustable panhard bar, but I have never adjusted. Maybe I need to look into doing that? Thanks for the clarification, it makes more sense to me now.

what part of NM are you in? I just got to el paso and went last weekend up to some place just north of rincon that was pretty cool but ended up being pretty hard since I don't have any lockers. I would love to go out with other Toyota guys though because the guys I go with are all jeep guys except for one pretty bad ass Tacoma and a samurai
