A: I dont mash the gas anywhere offroad. I have always tried to be a smooth, controlled driver. Using traction, not momentum to get where I want. I have always known these trucks were not very strong, now I know just how true that is.
B: I have 33's.

Not sure what the HP and torque numbers are with a supercharger, but I have seen stock axles handle alot more abuse with much larger tires. That is a pretty broad brush to paint with. The front I will agree is a weaker design than the previous models, but the rear V6 diffs are generally able to handle 35's and even 37's, I know several folks running lexus 4.0 v8s with the stock rears and 37's and they wheel the snot out of them. Jusy sayin' :noidea:

Um can't forget that stock gears is 4.10 and stronger than anything lower. Just saying. My buddy blew up a set of Yukon 4.88s on a single bump in Tacoma, where as my other buddy who is in a second gen 4Runner was bumping just as hard with 35s and 4.88s didn't break. The taco though is putting down 280 hp at the wheel and 320 torque and is also on a 8.4" diff.
Basically I am saying is that you never know what is gonna break. It is just what is the weakest when a load is applied.

After taking my old diff to a local friend and toyota mechanic, he told me that the gears were set up with too much backlash. And that under load they can fail easier that way.
Good job toyota :doh:
On a side note for those who care.. the truck is naturally aspirated again, it has the new diff in, I have a set of stock 5 star wheels and am looking for a cheap set of 265s in town, and I have a set of 99 suspension coming soon.
All that needs to be replace before sale are:
-rear tail lights (stock ones for 01-02s) Mine will be for sale soon. They are the Smoked LED ones with one side being kinda broken.
-Replace some burned out LEDs in the dash
-Replace brake pads and install an anti-rattle kit I should have had years ago..

Off topic a little, here's one more picture of my IS300 from last summer, in case you were still thinking of getting one. Had to find the sd card it was on. I was headed for my summer job.

How many miles did that used diff have?
Also, could have someone have had it apart before you bought it?
