New Radiator & other Pro-MOAB stuff
|May 15, 2012|
In Preparation for MOAB, there were lots of maintenance items I needed to take care of.
The most important of which was the radiator..
There were a few reasons I wanted to change the radiator before this trip. Reasons like:
-I was already running temps I would consider "too high" during the winter.. The summer would only make that worse.
-I wanted to put the trans in series with the radiator and the B&M, and I couldn't do that until I had a new radiator.
-I wanted to also install a cooler thermostat to help with temps, and the perfect time to do that is when you already have the radiator out.
Yes I use green coolant. I like apple milkshakes..
Old vs. New.
Old 180* thermostat out, stant 170* is now in.
Dang stripped bolt was a pain..
B&M install is much easier without the fan shroud in the way!!
B&M back on.
My new setup with the trans cooler is:
Hot from trans
> Temp sensor for gauge
> Radiator cooling
> B&M cooler
> In-line filter
> Back to trans.
Having driven around for a day or two with this setup, my temps are much lower! Where I used to see 197 for water temp I am now seeing 185. And where I used to see 170 for trans temp, I am now seeing 150s.
I am confident that without this setup, I would
easily overheat the transmission in MOAB. I am now not worried about it at all.
Other little stuff I did was:
-Lubed drive shaft.
-remove snowboard rack for better mileage.

Low profile wheel well bolts..
Taking the initiative from BigFishAllDay yet again, I installed low profile wheel well bolts.
These are the ones you want, but you don't need them quite this long..

This should take care of my rubbing.
