Sweet 4runner. How much was the roof rack setup and exactly what parts did you get? Is that a 44" fairing? I really want to get something similar to your setup in time for snowboarding season

The rack consists of the OEM rack & cross bars, additional Yakima 48" crossbars (2), Q-towers (4), Q-62 clips(4), 44" Fairing, Big powderhound snowboard rack, and very soon to also have a bicycle tray up there too.

It was a pretty penny to get, but when I sold my old Loadwarrior roof rack, it was almost an even swap.

Scangauge

Well I got the Scangauge II in today. As you guys know, I have been having problems with the autometer transmission temp gauge reading high temps, and I wanted to see what the truck's computer had to say about it.

The setup took like 5 minutes. After that I had to type a Code into the scangauge to get it to display transmission temperatures.

The code is as follows:
TXD: 686AF101B4
RXF: 044105B40000
RXD: 2808
MTH: 00090005FFD8

Scangauge II units can be purchased from the scangauge website: ScanGaugeII : Linear Logic - Home of the ScanGauge
Or on amazon for cheaper.

And I also scanned for check engine codes.. Nothing



Well here is what this $160 experiment came up with:

As you can see, the TRUE ATF temp is about 150. While the Autometer gauge is reading 250+..

Next step is to take apart, clean, and reassemble the sender unit and check all the wiring over.. If that doesn't work, Ill have to send the gauge back.



Oh and I guess I should show where I put it, just the usual spot..

It's good to see that it was just the gauge that was whacked. I bet that's a relief. :reddance:

Between the scangauge placement and the tranny temp gauge, I almost thought I was looking at my interior for a second there.

I was confident that it was just the gauge, but its still a HUGE relief!

I just did the taco whip mod on my truck too. Let me ask you a question. Looking straight on from the front of the vehicle, is your new antenna vertical? Or is it angled inward toward the center of the vehicle? Mine angles inward, and it kind of bugs me. I thought it should have been vertical like my old antenna.

With the supplied Velcro strips.

It is, I noticed after I finished. Both my CB antenna and the new tacoma antenna angle inward as you describe. I will try to get a good photo of it today.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure I didn't screw something up. I wonder if the antennas angle inward on the Taco's too, or are they vertical? Maybe the curvature of the fender where they mount is angled differently between the Taco's and the 4runners.

Its vertical on Tacos. I think you are right on the fender, the antenna opening must a bit more in towards the vehicle on 4runners.

I installed the 90 piece on the CB, but for some reason my unit does not fit anywhere near as flush to the rest of the panel as yours...and on top of that the entire panel now does not fit snug back into place. Do you have any advice for me hear??

Agreed, mine does not sit vertical either. When installing I got the sense that maybe the distance on the Tacoma from the top of the hood to the mounting point is likely a bit longer. Mine did not mount perfectly perpendicular, and I think that the fender shape as well as the additional angle put on the body of the antenna cause it to lean inward. It does not really bother me.

When you are getting ready to snap the whole console back into place, make sure no wires/cables are directly behind the CB. That thing pushes right up against the back of the console, so anything in between will get in the way and keep it from going all the way back. And that will prevent the whole console from being able to snap in also.

Let me know if that works.

The pictures are a little deceiving, they are good to go for another year. But after these are done, I may go to KM2s.

The part of putting the CB in that location, yes very easy. But the wiring part is a bit much for most. Since you already have wiring for a pre-existing CB, then it will be a walk in the park.

Oh wow that's not bad at all, I thought the lift and larger tires would drop it down to around 14 or so... are you still using the stock gear ratios?
