Nice. Bethel Ridge or ?

Went up to Sugarloaf this weekend, some snow. Luckily the fire didn't damage the lookout

How do those coopers handle on the road compared to your ko2? You get a chance to drive them in the rain yet?

Well... If the weatherman is to be believed, I might be able to tell you tomorrow. They seem to track straight on the highway. Granted, I have not really had them but about a day and a half. I did notice at slow speed hitting something like a small depression, it seemed to be more sensitive to that. Now, perhaps that is really just due to it being a wider tire than I am used to running 285's, so I don't know. But it's nothing drastic. The hum a bit, but that was to be expected. I will get plenty of rain driving in in due time. Tis the season here in the PNW.

I could have used them over this last weekend. Some of those trails had mud that was slicker than snot. The KO2's did okay, but they gummed up pretty quickly.

I think I saw your post on 4Runners of Washington. I love that spot at Sugarloaf. We had a group up there during last year's NWOR. The place we were at was called Lion Rock out of Liberty, WA. I forgot to take pics of the more challenging side trails as I was busy trying not to slide off the trail. We went and did the same thing last year later in the season with A LOT more snow. That was quite the trip too. It's a fun little trip if you have not been.

Yeah, the trails around Liberty are pretty cool, lots of variety (technically they close em down Oct 15 to prevent rutting and Prius's getting stuck in the snow). Wife did Lion's Rock in her Jeep with some friends a couple of weeks ago, I got to go to the house and do chores :-(

Here's some of the burned areas in the Mad River drainage behind Sugarloaf, got real close to the lookout and they had it wrapped in protective blankets. We led the "organized" runs up to Sugarloaf at the NWOR last year, twice on Friday. Getting to know the route pretty well...

FYI, they have the dates set for next year, June 20-23, 2019

Yeah I feel the closures will happen soon but there hasn't been a ton of snow just yet, so maybe they have delayed? That lookout at Surgarloaf is pretty awesome. And it's a fun ride getting there.

And thanks for the NWOR dates. I will definitely be there again this year.

Well, damn. I've been pretty inactive on here and I come back to seeing you've done. I remember seeing you discussing a locker, happy with your choice on gear/locker combo?
Everything looks awesome, I'm interested in hearing how you like the new Coopers. New tire time is coming up for me and I'll likely settle for a set of ST MAXX or STT Pro's, just not sure how aggressive I want to go with it.
You ever make it to Northern CA for wheeling? I know it's a bit of a drive for you but I may be moving that way by this time next year for work and need some wheeling friends, haha.

Hey Matthew, or do you prefer Matt? Thank you. So, I am happy with my gears and locker choice. Granted, I haven't had the larger 35's on for all that long. And, even with the new gears and the 285/75/16's, I wasn't blasting through the pass. It IS a noticeable improvement. It sort of feels like where it used to just get by, now feels like a giant hand is behind you pushing you with a bit more force and urgency. If that makes any sense? I have used the locker a couple times so far and I have to say that it is pretty nice to have it there as an option. I think there are a lot of things doable with open / open, but the locker is such an nice enhancement. I think the locker and the new meaty STT Pros will be a really nice combo. This last trip I took, the KO2s got gummed up pretty fast with super slick mud. But I think the locker sort of made up the difference in some of last weekend's challenges.

I was considering the same tires that you are looking at. It seemed like I found a lot of people mentioning that the ST Maxx "can" pull to the right. Check out Tacoma World. But in the end, I wanted to try a more aggressive tire and didn't want a hybrid. The Pro's seem to do well out here too. I don't think you'd go wrong with either. I am sure you probably already know, but DTD will have their second sale in March if you are ready to buy then.

I would love to come check out Northern California. I have been so busy exploring WA. that I haven't even checked out wheeling in Oregon yet. You could come up here too man. There are plenty of cool things to see up here as well. You'll have to make a trip sometime. You are welcome to crash at my place for the weekend or maybe make it a camping trip.

Chipping away at a mountain of mods.

Replaced LCA bushings with Whiteline bushings. Replaced OEM cam tabs with Total Chaos tam cab gussets. (PITA). My OEM cam bolts were fine do I left the SPC LR cam tabs in the box. Getting the LCAs back in was a pain. We had to pry and pull them back into mounting as they fought our efforts to seat them with all the damned washers.

We tightened up 3 out of my 4 loose motor mounts. I also found out that I need to notch my Savage skids. The LCAs are making contact during their range of motion.

We we're thinking that we might tackle welding up the TC spindle gussets, but ran out of time.

To do list:
- TC spindle gussets.
- Install ARB snorkel.
- Clear for 35s.

You mean something like this:

lQQy8su.jpg

I just finished up the fronts this afternoon. Shocks are back in and the tires are back on. By far the biggest PIA mod I've done to my rig. I'd rather throw dual cases in any day. Have fun. lol

Good job! What a pain in the jimmy this is. I think I am on the shorter size of 35s, so I feel like I am getting off a bit easier. But.. Those Total Chaos items... Cam tab gussets, and Spindle tab gussets are not any fun. Do you plan on gusseting your spindles? That is a big project. I only wanted to get one good alignment, but I will need to do the spindles another time. But... My friend dialed the alignment back in pretty damn close. It feels the same to me after the cam tab gussets were added.

I think I will try to keep the G setting on the SPC UCAs and just grind the gusset and trim the shock tower to make it fit.

Good on you for tackling that job, Ryder. I recently did my LCA Bushings (among other items), replaced originals with OEM, not a small task. Who is doing your welding for you? I want to find someone local for various projects that are on my mind. I'm getting a lift and some sliders soon, maybe we can go have some fun in the new year?

Hey Justin! Thanks man. I was planning on dropping the front down about an inch and I wanted to get a lot of things sorted so that I wasn't having to do alignments over and over. Sliders are a great investment and probably the best bang for your buck mods. Have you decided on a lift plan yet? I have a friend who welds. He is usually too busy, but sometimes gels me out as a favor to me. We'll have to get together sometime for trail rides this year.

No current plans for spindle gussets.

My SPC's are set to F.

Right on. I would have thought that you, having strengthened up the rear mounts, would have something in the works for the front. But, there are priorities. I need to go about a year or so without spending any more money on my rig. 2018 was the year of the mod, and my wallet knows the tale.

I am looking forward to seeing your rig back out on the trails less traveled. Good work on the tub job man. Looks good.

Went with Sonoran Current 1.2 but with 2.5 Radflos, not sure if/when a bumper will be added to the truck but I wanted to be "future proofed" with the larger shock body. Contemplated going with Radlfo in the rear too but I will try the FJ shocks first. Should have everything by the end of the year. I need a friend like that...or I should just but the tools and become said friend:cheers:

Would enjoy some trail rides, I will let you know when she is more trail ready.

I don't recall seeing this brought up anywhere else, but it looks as though my lower control arms seem to contact the skid during their cycling. So I made a little bit of room with the grinder.

I also got parts for a projector retrofit and my fancy pants Plastics guy front bumpstops! I have heard tons of good stuff about them and I can't wait to get them on and check em out.

Road Bull, stubbs rock slider question. Would you mind taking a measurement of how far down the kick out angle is? It looks like it's around 20" from the end.

Also, would you mind taking a width measurement of the main portion of your sliders & at the widest point of the kick out? I spoke to Richard a while back & I think he said it was a 1" kick out but wanted to make sure. Thanks man.

Okay, If I understand what you are asking correctly, here are some rough measurements. I would have crawled under to try to get a better visual, but it is night time, and I jacked up my knee at work. This should be close if they are the numbers you seek.

I added a few pics that give a little bit of a picture of what they look like from a few different angles. For reference, Stubbs said that he offered them angled a couple different ways. I wasn't so concerned with making them looked tucked up against the vehicle. I also wanted to be able to use them as a step. He recommended, I think 7 degrees. If I did it again, I would be tempted to order them flat. To me this might offer a bit more stand off room for rocks and trees and be a bit better of a step up.

I can try to get better measurements if you need them.

That is exactly what I needed, thank you! So the widest portion of the kick out is only about a 1/2" wider than the main slider width?

It was raining a bit during my initial measurements, but I think we are still talking about an inch or less variation. It isn't extreme or anything. Measurements were only a careful eyeball on tape measure, trying to account for end to end as best I could. Do you have a tight space you are working with?
