Sorry about your situation but excited for the new build. Curious how things might become different/better/etc! Good luck...excited to follow.

Yeah, all things considered, I'd rather not have rolled my rig. But, I will make a couple of tweaks and changes. I doubt any changes would be super obvious to someone looking at my old build, and my future build to come. But, who knows. LOL.

Sure. $8K.

Since I purchased my first 4runner back in 10/2014 for $7K, prices seemed to have gone up a few thousand dollars overall. Part of what makes the used market so crazy is that the new market is so crazy. Then you have people buying to flip. You'll see them trying to hock 3rd gens for $13K and up.

The used 3rd gen market out here, and on the west coast is crazy. They were averaging $8,500-$10,000 for what I was looking for. I looked at several ~180,000K mile vehicles, that seemed to be worse off than some of the higher mileage vehicles. I am pretty picky. I spent some money running carfax vehicle history reports and avoided some NE rustbelt transplants. And I "might" have found one in similar condition for a better price if I wasn't burning money driving a rental. But.. This one popped up and didn't have all the plastic that I am not fond of, had fabric seats, and was silver. It was a west coast only vehicle and didn't have any rust to speak of. Before finding it, I walked away from A LOT of "no-go" vehicles.

Thanks man. It sure could have been a lot worse. LOL. But... I am getting set to get the new rig sorted out. I want to get a few base-line ,mechanically speaking, and swap the parts over as much as I can.

I have been working on the order of things to be done. The biggest project needs quite a few things to happen at once. For the big project, the rear axles will be swapped, front diffs swapped, suspension, TBU, tub job, LCA swap, tires and wheels... Before that the snorkel and front bumper. Before that, washer bottle relocation, headlight swap, horns... It makes my head hurt, hahaha. But I have some good friends to lend a hand, so it shouldn't suck too much.

Yes, the prices around here are crazy. It had made shopping for a replacement daunting. I'm not sure what people are actually getting for some of these high price tag vehicles, but it sounds like yours could easily be listed for something around $12 or $13,000. I'm not sure what you would end up yielding, but you're in a pretty good position if your vehicle has been taken care of especially with the options you're talking about in the low mileage.

I love these 3rd gens, but if this happened to me again I would strongly consider looking into a second gen Taco double cab short bed as a replacement.

The end of the year was busy as far as upgrades go. I managed to get my lift on, new wheels a while back. I also got the full Savage skids painted and mounted.

Beyond that, I got Stubbs HD-SKO sliders painted and installed. I went with Rustoleum self etching primer and Rustoleum hammered black finish. I haven't had a chance to put them to any great Terra test than defending my body in parking lots, lol.

I also gave my rig a tune up at ~209K miles. New Denso plugs and NGK Wires. I also tightened my loose valve cover bolts during my tune up.

I have a list of things to do and install:

-Warn 8000m winch
-Hella Super tones horn
-PIAA 510 Crystal Ion fog lights
-ARB twin air compressor
-Install extended differential breather
-Valve cover seal job
-Timing belt, T-stat, water pump
-New Radiator

That should keep me busy for the foreseeable future.

All the details are on the first page of this build page. But my lift started out with the Sonoran Steel 7.5 wraps with 861 coils with Tokico LC black shocks. I carried tools, recovery equipment, and eventually the 4X Innovations rear swing out bumper. When I added the 4X Innovations rear swing out, I swapped teh 7.5 LC coils for 861's. 861's handle the weight of an offroad bumper better. That picture was with 267/75/16 tires, I jumped up to 285/75/16s, and then a year later 315/75/16s. The rig in THIS build died when it flipped over on its side. The replacement is pretty much the same 2002 4Runner.

The difference on The Changeling Build, Road Bull's 2002 SR5 Changeling Build. , is that the replacement build has a 1" BL and 650# springs up front.
