Well there you go [MENTION=96696]Samm25[/MENTION], I knew someone would figure why the Mustang fellow went nuclear on you, had nothing to do with your driving, it was what you were driving that did it, he was following you to see if you were headed for his girl and when you turned towards his neigborhood he lost it!!! :naughty:

that's why we've got 4runners right? all that cargo space.
But yeah, this crap happens all the time where I live. Generally I've found it's people in trash cars that don't really care what happens to them or their stuff, so be careful with that. Also, just because you're being chased, doesn't mean just totally disregard every law. Some situations it's the way to go, some not.
The first time I got chased, I was really really young, dumb, and had a terrible lead foot. I accidentally cut off a guy in a 90s/2000s Altima on i10 while going to the airport late in the evening. He kept riding my ass for a bit and then he got in front of me and brake checked me and wouldn't let me change lanes and get around him. Eventually slammed on my brakes and then swerved and sped up around him and just punched it. He kept up until about 95 before I got on the HOV. Lost him at about 119-120 and just kept going until I felt it was safe.
Second time it was in the 4runner, late at night after getting yogurt and this dude in a newer SUV kept honking at me and riding my ass. Maybe he noticed something on my car was hanging off or something and was being a nice guy, but that is not the way to go about it. Never gonna step out of the car in a situation like this. In the 4runner I knew full well I wasn't going to be able to outrun him or duck in some side street without flipping my truck. I just kept driving normally for the most part and called 911 and told them what was going on and eventually a light was about to turn red so i just blew through it and the guy quit.
Happens all the time in Houston. People here are stupid and drive stupid. Just how it goes. Gotta drive defensively and stay safe.

I agree. Way too many horrible drivers here in town. And too many that get pissed off too easily

At first I was reading your description and thought you were in the wrong to make the left lane change to turn Right. but I misinterpreted it like some other readers who should have used google maps to play the situation out.
If you were afraid to hit your tires on the curb, naturally anyone would go the far left Lane on Wilderness Oak while turning from Blanco RD. What provoked that idiot in the mustang? Who knows. Maybe you didn't do anything wrong and the dude was just high on drugs or have mental issues. Don't assume everyone is normal like you, never make that assumption on the road.
And in Texas its quite more dangerous with their PRo gun situation. So it was better you got hit on the passenger side with that metal rod than your gf getting hit with a gun. You got lucky that this idiot wasn't packing, otherwise it would be a nightmare with someone like that on your ass.
Things you should do if it happens again.
1. Get a dashcam, in case some incident happens again, you got their license plate and can report it to the cops or insurance companies if there is damage.
2. Get your gf to start recording or call the cops if you feel there is some kind of threat on the road. If the dude on the mustang sees someone on the phone, he probably would get spooked and cool it off.
3. if they feel like they are tailing you or trying to keep up with you, don't do what he thinks you would do. Throw him off and move elsewhere or go slower to where he gets impatient and drives off. Make the first right or left turn so he doesn't follow you if the guy is in front. He would have to do a U turn to catch up to you.
4. Don't be scared, stay calm and don't be angry, anything can cause you to lose it to idiots who are trying to play mind games with you. Could cause an accident.
I had an incident recently where I was on a three lane road, this person behind me was coincidentally an idiot with a mustang too. Since I was near approaching the light to make my left turn on a one left turn only lane, the mustang behind me got offended because he tried to turn in the left lane quicker than me from much farther back. So he felt his personal bubble got invaded when i made the signal and turned left. (some cases people actually speed up when they see that blinker blinking knowing they should let you pass but they tell you to EFF off instead )
As I was making the turn. this street was designed very stupidly by street engineers. It would be confused at if it would want to be a two lane road or a one lane road. Sometimes the roads would narrow and require the right lane to merge to the left lane. then later becomes two lane again with another left lane merge from the right lane. Since i knew the stupid road. I would just stay on the left lane to avoid being the one on the right to make a quick left turn where the right lane suddenly ends.
The guy in the mustang didn't want to be behind me, so he tried to do a quick right lane and speed up to do a left lane change to pass me. When he tried to do that, there was another vehicle in the front of him on the right lane that he didn't see since he was too focused on my lovely 4runners behind, so it slowed him down. he got very irritated. So he was forced to make a left turn lane merge behind me, then the road would become two lanes again for a brief period before becoming one. I can always tell when he presses the accelerator when his loud muffler would roar. so this time he gunned the pedal hard on the right lane to pass me on the left.
Thunder was roaring on my right and he went flying to the left in front of me. We stopped at a red light and he would look at his side mirror with his angry face at me from time to time, trying to make sure where I am at so I don't get past him on a one lane road. Not my fault that i knew the roads better than him. Green light comes and he goes, but he is stuck behind another vehicle in front of him while monitoring me in the back. He was thinking i was going to follow behind him behind and get annoyed. I actually had to make a left turn soon, so I did a left and caught up to him on the left turn only lane.
At this point, he probably thought I was going to pass him on a left turn only lane, so it threw him out of his plans to keep me following him from behind. He couldn't speed up because of the vehicle in front of him. I don't think he even anticipated me going left because it was a small one lane only road both ways with dirt and nothing else .I didn't look at the moron's face when I was caught up with him, I just knew I had to turn left. So before I made the left, since he was too busy monitoring my actions from behind. I figure I give him the universal sign language of truth up closer to where he could see me and to tell him goodbye as I went my way and he went his.
I shouldn't have done the last bit, but some people just deserve it. If they are angry, let them be angry. It shouldn't ruin my day for idiots who likes to dominate the road with their sports car. Once i see sports cars like that. I just let them pass and cut, its just their natural driving habit to be A-holes. Just be glad you are safe and not sorry. So take the situation you've experienced, and learn from it and to de-escalate it before it gets heated

At least here in (San Antonio) TX you have to have more proof in order to take any legal action. A few month's ago I was in the parking lot of Mission Baseball Complex, as I am unloading the car I hear a crash. A lady in a Ford Sedan hit a brand new Titan while pulling in to the parking spot. This lady never reported it to the driver and left the park at some point. I left a note on the Titan and the driver of the Titan did contact me. After providing them with the plate number SAPD told the owner that he would have to claim it on his insurance since there was no way to prove who was driving the car. I was even willing to identify the driver if the police needed me to.

Lazy cop right there. If they went to the driver's home they'd probably find a vehicle with matching paint on it from the victim's vehicle. Then you turn to the driver with the witness statement and extract a confession. Not hard. Too many lazy cops. Trust me I know.

You’re absolutely right. A few months ago we had an incident on my street where this unknown car kept parking on it for no reason. The kid would park, get picked up by someone and his car would just be left there. I live in a dead end street and no one knew who the car was, so after calling the cops on him, they missed him before he drove off and I was told to continue calling until they caught him. Well, I called just a few days later and they didn’t do ANYTHING about it. They showed up, looked at the car and drove off. The next day I see the kid driving out and about and a few days later, he goes and parks on another street up the road from my house. Till this day I still see him driving around from time to time. Don’t know why they’d tell me to call if they weren’t going to do anything about it. They even asked if I wanted to receive a call back from the sherif about an update on the situation, I said yes, and well, again it’s been about two months since that happened and I’ve never heard anything.

I’ve definitely learned from it! At this point since I’ve driven I’ve found myself to be more aware of who’s driving around me and what moves to and not to make. So it’s definitely opened my eyes a little more into where I’m going and watching my surroundings.
I’m never really scared of these types of situations because I know I’m never intentionally provoking someone or ever wanting to get into a confrontation, especially when it comes to a hot head like this who might just be pissed off for whatever reason. I do personally have my license to carry my handgun with me, and believe me, I carry it every place it’s legal to. But I hope and pray that I am never in a situation where I have to use it. If it’s not a life threatening situation and my car just gets dinged up a bit, I’d take that over having to draw a weapon any day.

First, you sound like you have trouble with road rage too. Second, if there is no oncoming traffic turning left, its not a big deal and I have done it thousands of times, probably in view of police with no trouble. Third, it sounds like the Mustang did the same thing so **** him.

I drive an hour to work each way, about half of which is on four lane highways. (two lanes each way). I have an "incident" pretty much every day...
most of which are nothing more than some brief tail-riding, a few horn honks and an occasional bird-flipping.
Did have one occasion where a woman got pissed because I was not driving fast enough in the passing lane. Basically because it was 5:00 rush hour and NOBODY was driving fast in EITHER lane. I moved to the right lane to get her off my a**, and she followed me over...I guess so she could continue to show her anger and continue to ride my bumper.
She got off the highway at the next exit, and threw a hair brush that bounced off my windshield. Guess it was the only thing she could afford to lose. I followed her off the exit to show MY anger...and rode her bumper for most of her ride home. I know it's not the most mature response, but I wasn't the one throwing hair brushes.
She was driving a new Mercedes. It confirmed my belief that the more money you spend on your car, the more chance you have of turning into a jerk.

From what I can tell the Mustang driver was likely a hothead and attempted to gun it and pass the 4Runner while they were turning right. The Mustang idiot likely assumed the 4Runner would stay right, but ended up cutting off the Mustang when he chose the left lane.
This whole situation would have been avoided if the dipsh|t in the Rustang stayed behind the 4R--as he should have--until both cars completed the right turn.

I guess thats why my 4Runner bought in 2008 brand new, today has only 6,773 miles.
And it's paint has been keyed a bunch of times when parked, really piss's me off.

I would like to offer for consideration, the perspective of a truck driver: I have to set up almost every right turn I make in a days travel from as far left as the layout of the road allows. Sometimes, we have to momentarily swing left into oncoming traffic (only when clear and safe to do so mind you), to complete a right turn....while watching the passenger mirror to make sure traffic behind us doesn't squeeze into the gap I created for my trailer to clear a curb / stopsign / light pole / etc. Sometimes entering an intersection, I have to use your turn lane, or turn into the left lane from a far right lane. I have to deal with the "impatient Mustang" driver several times a day....
I would like to offer a humble observation, based on personal experience: Texas is by far and without a doubt, my least favorite place to operate a commercial motor vehicle. And I say that as a Missouri boy, born and raised....I am far more comfortable negotiating Jersey or Rhode Island, and I have to set up for some wild turns in Pawtucket....but those people, generally speaking, are accustomed to dealing with us. In Texas, everyone owns the road, and they aint sharin'! "Drive Friendly, the Texas Way" :drum:
