Here's the scenario...
You're driving on the freeway at 60mph and there's a city service truck about 200yds in front of you, you're in the far left lane and the only option is lane change to the right. There's a POS doing about the same speed a car length in the lane on the right, so you signal to merge and make the lane switch then all of a sudden the car in front brake checks you. I'm not talking about a simple tap and release, but a full on brake then slow to a 20mph speed and stay there. You have a 3 month baby and your wife in the back and almost crash. What would you do?

honestly ignore the idiot and get out from behind him as soon as its safe, its not worth starting something with the wife and kid in the car. now if you were alone one could say -ram him, and then once you both pull over pound his face in and drive off... or you could do this... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LpyLMoC6Rgw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> of course being in LE i can not condone or recommend any of this... so simply just drive away and if you must do something, get a plate number and call the police. you never know who is in the other car, just because you might be a MMA fighter and can take on 3 guys at the same time doenst mean the other guy doesnt have a gun(the gun will 90% of the time win), and just cause you might have a CCP/CWP/CHL, doesnt mean the other guy isnt trained to deal with an armed thread and neutralize the thread(you).

trust me its always best just to be the bigger person and just walk(drive) away and curse them from the comfort of your own vehicle. i know thats probably not what you wanted to hear. i know how you feel, ive had crap like this happen to me and i used to have the attitude that ill change them... but it just turned out to be more of a waste of my time, so now i just ignore them and go on about my business...

There are lots of incompetent, oblivious, and just plain stupid drivers out there. Just this afternoon while out for a couple hours on the bike, I had three different drivers pull out of side streets, right in front of me.

I wasn't speeding, and if they had bothered to look, I would have been easy to spot. They were probably all on very important calls about what to have for Dinner tonight. :rant:

If I hadn't learned long ago to expect drivers to make the dumbest decisions possible while driving, and to always be prepared in advance to react accordingly, I would probably be another Motorcyclist statistic by now.

The bottom line is you can't fix stupid. So just expect people to make the worst decisions possible while driving, and you'll be okay.

As for your scenario, I'd just be grateful my family was safe. Eventually karma will catch up to the asshat that brake-checked you.

Maybe he'll try it with a Semi, next time.

A somewhat similar situation has happened while I was on my motorcycle, except the asshat in front of me brake checked me 4 times in a 1 mile stretch of road, and wouldn't let me around him. I may or may not have gone WOT(wide open throttle) and taken his drivers side mirror off with my right foot as I went by.(God bless steel toe boots)

I will say that I also have my CCP, and anytime I'm not on my way to or from work, I have a gun on me, or in the car. And I've discovered that I am much more composed and less prone to road rage or getting aggravated by anything when I have a gun on me.

Had this happen to me Monday in my girlfriends Honda Civic, with her two year old daughter in the back seat sleeping.

Going down 40, construction in the left lane. We all get over, then the douche bag hits slams his brakes going 90. Went from 90 to <40 pretty quickly.

I ended up in the grass, trying to avoid the jackass.

As soon as we were out of the construction, I passed gunned it to get around him.

The fast lane sucks just for that reason

treat it as a passing lane and use the number 2 lane. How close were you to the rear of the car? sounds like you scared the driver with a rearview mirror full of 4runner especially if there in a compact
