Road Rage

I always ASSUME EVERYONE on the road is an idiot and use defensive driving practices by keeping aware of my surroundings, keep safe distances between myself all potential morons entering/exiting my vehicle's zone of travel and possible unexpected/unforeseen emergency maneuvers by fellow drivers sharing the road.

And yes, LA has some of the worst road ragers I've ever personally encountered.

You obviously failed to learn your lesson, which was not to yell at a ghetto fool driving a rich man's car blasting music. I would leave the damage on your car as a lesson, if I were you. Next time it could be a lot worse, for your daughter especially. Ask yourself if what you had to say was worth it.

Failed to learn my lesson? Really? How so? You don't have to answer that and this is last I will post on this.

1) You are correct, I, nor anybody should "yell" at anyone when they do stupid things on the road. ONLY because there are hot heads out there and you never know who you are going to run into. But what happened doesn't justify what he did next. That's why there are laws out there to protect us from these animals. Guy broke the law. Pain and simple. Did I provoke him? Evidently I did. Do I deserve the blame? This animal would probably think to give me the finger and that would've ended it for me (forgot about it). That's how it ends in 99% of the time. Did I deserve to have my life threatened? You guys answer that, I don't have to explain any further. OF course this could have ended a lot worse, maybe this scum was carrying a piece............ so yeah, lessons learned.

2) Leave the damage on my car as a lesson?? huh? I'm a "fix things up and move on" kind of a person. I don't need a visual reminder of that stupid animal, which is why it will get fixed.

3) Had my daughter and/or wife been in the car, I would've never said anything to the a-hole. I know better when my family is on board.

4) I used to live/drive in South America for 8 years, I know all about road rage.

Whatever man........... I do agree on any future incidents by not doing anything. Of course it wasn't worth it, but hindsight is always 20/20. Which is why one learns from it.

Me saying F**K You to those who BREAK THE LAW and BREAK THE CODE OF CIVILITY deserve it. (of course I don't mean that literally, jeez........)

Let's ask questions....

Why did you not notice what he was going to do before it happened?

Road rage can be prevented by being a defensive and alert driver.

Where you going to slow for him?
Didn't you notice him before he cut you off? If you did you wouldn't have been cut off, you would have either boxed him out by driving next to another car and he couldn't get around you or backed off and let him go around you.

I do different things depending on my mood of the day. Benefits of being taller and bigger than most cars out there. I know I can't beat them in a acceleration and turning, so I beat them by making them frustrated that they can't get around me or see around me.

I would have had fun with that BMW driver. Having a larger vehicle that can go up and down curbs is also an advantage. I would have acted like I never noticed him and eventually got in front and drive slower.

Or

Since he got out of the car screaming telling you He was going to kill you in a parking lot, I would have called in guy with a BMW was trying to rob me. You had other witnesses in the parking lot that didn't know what happened prior to the parking lot confrontation. Pull out you wallet and say here take it, take it. Now it becomes robbery, lol.

You win. There are witnesses saying driver of BMW saying he wanted to kill you. No one witnessed him cutting you off, lol.

Yep, I was a victim of road rage today in downtown Allentown. Some dumbass in a late model 750iL cut me off so much that I had to slam on my brakes. A couple of lights down, we both make a right onto a street, but I wasn't going to do anything, because, well, why? Anyway, we both get to a red traffic light and he gets into the left lane to make a left and I stay in my lane to continue onto my destination up ahead. Both our cars stopped next to each other, windows down, him with raggaeton blasting and I yell, "use your f**king turn signals next time". he yells something back, but the light turns green and I just left. He abruptly cuts somebody off to chase me to the strip mall I was heading to (I was heading to the bank) and I saw what he was doing. I get out my cell phone to call 911 just in case. Anyway, I go to park, but never get into my spot, he pulls up next to me and parks his car and quickly gets out. "b****, get outta your car" he yells. I get out the cell phone to take a pic b/c I see he isn't armed, then he yells, "I'm going to kill you b****". I took a snap and TOOK OFF. I wasn't going to stick around and wait for the cops. Right after I take off, the dumbass throws something hard at my car and damages it. I didn't stop, like I said, I just wanted to get out of there.

Headed to my parents house about 15 min away and called the police. I tell them a guy cuts me off, chases me down b/c I yelled at him, tells me that he is going to kill me, then damages my cars by throwing something at my car. The police officer tells me to come downtown to make/file a report.

I head downtown to police headquarters, tell an officer to what happened and gave them pictures that I printed out (damages to my car AND the perp and his car). He pretty much tells me that if I hadn't yelled at him, none of this would've happen. OF course, this is true, but even if I insulted his mother, he didn't have the right to threaten to kill me OR damage my car.

What irks me is that my 2 year daughter is sometimes with me, what if she was with me and his guy had hit the window?? He would've smash it and injured her. NO doubt if that had happened, I would've tried to ram the son of a b****............. yeah yeah, I know, but it didn't happen. Whatever.

You guys have no idea how much I want to see this guy burn.

changing gears:

Anyway, the same body shop that I took my 4Runner to a couple of days to fix the bumper (that a valet damaged). Luckily, they said it would buff off and they would try a dent removal procedure (tech goes to the inner part of the door and uses a tool to smooth out the dent). As you can see in the pics, it's not bad. I'd rather they try that than to repaint the door which pretty much means they will also paint the quarter panel AND front door to color match. That will cost at least a grand. This procedure was quoted at $95.

Called my insurance just in case to let them know what happened in case the dent removal procedure doesn't work. $95 vs. $250 deductible.
Anyway, I'm a believer in Karma and boy is this pile of shit going to get it.

I have a pic of the perp and his shitty car, but probably best NOT to post. I don't know who he is and how this MIGHT blow up in my face.

Message to those of you who cut people off and frequenty road rage........... F**K YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you did the right thing by not escalating the situation and walk away. I keep thinking that it's not worth my time dealing with those a**holes. It's like you walk into a rest stop restroom and see a roach in the corner, why would you bother kicking or stepping on the freaking roach? same case for those road idiots.

Let's ask questions....

.

I wasn't going too slow. I was going 35 in a 35 , but I did notice him speeding up toward me in my rear view mirror. When people do this, I don't wince, I stay my ground (I don't speed up). Anyway, after he cut me off, I did nothing to catch up to him or the like (boxing him in, etc). All I did was yell at the jackass when I had the opportunity. That's it. That was my only crime.

When I was living in Peru, my 3rd Gen Surf had 31" tires, so it was alot taller than the average car, I also had tinted windows. When an incident would happen (like someone cutting me off), all I do was look/stare at him. This was enough for them to look at me and basically scurry off. .......... I guess I'm ugly (menacing) when I'm pissed, hahahhaah.

Amen brother. I walked away. I took a pic when attempting to drive away, then he threatened me, this was when I Mario Andretti'ed my ass out of there.

Wonder what would've happen if I was in my 4Runner? Ghetto-scumbag probably thought he could pick on a "lowly" Civic.

Alright, let's give it a shot.

since your opened the door...

That's English?

People behaving like this guy was a hair shy of escalating.

Read that out loud to yourself. Nope.

A gun in his car would have been his choice imho. From there you get him threatening the truck driver and within a minute or so the cops arrive (all 6 of em) weapons drawn. Turns out Camry guy can't hear so well and starts firing at the truck. Cops unload. Bloody mess. Being an ER RN I go over and look the situation over. "Looks bad" I say. Cop says, "Careful, he may have a bomb strapped to him". I say, "Your'e right white guy in his 70's driving a Camry and attacking a gravel truck, sheesh no brainer...he's strapped".

Anyway.....glad the guy was not carrying.

This is called a straw-man fallacy. You took an argument I didn't make and knocked it down. We're not talking about the criminals having guns, man. The criminals will always have guns. They don't follow stupid gun control laws, because they're criminals.

We're talking about the truck driver having a gun, and the right to defend himself. Feel free to come up with reasons why you're glad he was unable to do that, since you're glad "this is California=fewer guns."

Alright, let's give it a shot.

Yes.

Works for me not for you.

I was glad the Camry owner did not have a gun. Sorry that you could not figure that out. The truck driver was cool.

Straw Man Argument is a tool used to distract from the original debate. You should know this. Perhaps your argument is not as apparent to me as it is to you? I'm glad the guy(s) were not armed and for this reason. Frontal lobe controls impulsive behavior in people. When full of chemicals (alcohol) or apparently rage, this impulse control is overwhelmed and people do things that they normally would not. Given this fact gun ownership, at least in my view, should be supported by strong training. How's that for ya big boy?

are you having a bad day or something man?

I completely agree. I also think the truck driver would have been within his rights to defend himself. There is no question he was being threatened with deadly force. That's the point I was trying to make.

First of all, why is this post even in this section? This is not a technical discussion nor does it have anything to do with 4runners (Gen4 or otherwise). There are other sections here for general chit-chat.

Glad it was California = fewer guns.:peace:/QUOTE]
I was going to comment on this when I first read it but assumed this thread would be deleted before too long.

I assume the OP meant it as an off hand joke but he needs to realize there are many card carrying NRA members and/or CCW licensees here and we don't find comments like that funny.

Its not that we don't have a sense of humor but those types of statements just perpetuate ignorance. Statistics have proven that fewer guns do not = peace or lower crime. Just the opposite as a matter of fact. Statistics clearly show that as the percentage of legally own firearms per capita increases, the violent crime rate decreases. Statistics have also shown that states that have enacted CCW laws have seen their violent crime rates drop as well.

Ever since CCW bills started spreading through the nation the media and anti gun groups have tried to push the notion that situations like this one would lead to people shooting each other if they were legally armed but that has not been the case at all.

Correct! Moved to OT.

As a follow up from above statement, as I did a quick search.

It's not illegal, but, if you drive for companies they have policies. As a owner/operator you are the boss. It is against the law to enter military facilities with one, and if you go through state to state, even with a CCW permit, each state has there own laws even if you have one from certain states.

Better know in my case, damn if you do, damn if you don't.

Thank you for doing some research and clarifying. Your previous statement was just plain wrong, and should be edited. There is absolutely not a federal law prohibiting all truck drivers from carrying weapons in their vehicles. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Concealed carry permits have very little to do with one's ability to carry a weapon in a vehicle. The laws do vary by state, but the general rule is that anyone who is legally eligible to own a handgun (e.g., non-felons) is also legally able to carry that handgun in their vehicle. Concealed carry permits deal with being able to carry the gun on one's person (body) when in public places.

Correct on your statements on driving and edited my prior post.

But, when you have a commercial license, and are pulled over by DOT personal, it's a wee bit different situation, and all the time they are going to detain you, back ground check, cavity check and anything else they may think of, for just caring/having one, NOT WORTH IT TO ME.

And stated before, some others do carry them with them, and I have in the past going cross country commercially.

Besides, I'm behind a 80,000 lbs. killing machine anyway.
