Um... as much as I liked reading this thread why did it turn to guns or gun control? :fencing:


I think we could all benefit by just not driving like idiots. I can honestly say I am that guy that drives way to slow but has THE loudest exhaust possible for a 4runner so people think I am a douche (which is not so far from the truth when I pipe blast people accelerating from a red light). But hey, its better to get there safely than not.

When it comes to guns, come on, I live in Idaho, we would rather pass things through legislature when it comes to guns on college campuses than approve funding for public education. (I like guns and yes I am a teacher):ybrick:

You are an idiot. You also likely committed a crime (possibly a felony) by brandishing your weapon. The law does not defend you when you use the weapon merely as a threat. The most basic of self defense classes would teach you that.

People like you are why people in this country are anti-gun.

Not picking sides on this discussion, but its very important to point out that this is FELONY menacing. You are not legally allowed to draw your firearm unless you or a bystander are in imminent danger. You are required to use any and all means at your disposal to defuse the situation. There is a VERY thin line between self defense and attempted murder.

It's all good. I think (excuse me for taking the liberty and sorry if I am wrong) you meant, in your very first post, that you were thankful that the crazy Camry man didn't have a gun. However, you didn't say it clearly, and that's what got a few people's feathers ruffled. You are completely spot on regarding the necessity of training. Just look at the pistol-brandishing moron in this thread. People like that need to be educated or incarcerated.

You mentioned guns in your first post. So contrary to your comment in the second quote, you opened the door.

The guy talking about brandishing a weapon because someone cut him off reminds me of my friend in college.

He was not an idiot PER-SE but clearly suffered serious lack of foresight issues.

So one night in Santa Cruz, CA he sees someone looking into his Camry drivers side window at 10-ish at night, parked in his driveway.

Probably some street kid, local thief or tweeker.

Instead of calling the cops, then turning on the lights and yelling hey get away from there, perhaps with a baseball bat or something for self defense ....

He grabs an 8" kitchen knife and runs out confront the guy, waves the knife at the guy and basically chases him off. The car hadn't been broken into or damaged (yet).​

So as he is telling me this story I ask him, what would you have done (with the 8" knife in one hand and the other free) if the guy had punched you or tackled you?

He told me he didn't know, didn't plan it out that far.

Now I'm sure someone on this thread will say if the guy punched him my friend would be in his legal rights to stab the crab out of the dude but we all know that would criminally liable. The guy had no weapon and you can't stab a dude to death for punching you. Maybe it could have been a fair fight if he put the knife away and then fought back when the dude punched him? But we all know that wouldn't be practical either.

Perhaps the thief guy is mental and doesn't care about the knife, decides to kick ass and risk getting stabbed. My friend the home renter standing in his un-gated driveway still can't stab a dude for trying to punch him.

Common sense is to keep the lethal weapons hidden until the very last moment you need to use them and only then when your life is in clear danger. If you do that you will avoid most problems with the law.

I wouldn't say suspicious. It was just an observation.

As for English pointers, I found it ironic that someone who was busy telling others to "brush up" on their English, would make such a glaring grammatical error themselves. :)

Key points. Many people do not understand this and it is so relevant. Police are always going to ask questions and if they find out there was a gun being used to threaten that person is going to jail. Sadly that does not apply to the man in this thread. The cops pointed out to me that he had told them that he was making a lane change...:confused: Since they did not observe what I saw they did not arrest him though their report will have my observations. They felt quite certain that the DMV would take away in CDL.

Overall I was just surprised that man who could be that clever to tell the cops that story in the spur of the moment would also have such a lack of impulse control. That is what I find interesting mostly.

Alright man. Before you point fingers, understand this guy put my wife's life in danger (and mine) and any gun charges pressed would've fallen in my favor. Second, I have taken self defense courses. Third, I'm not the type of guy to have a personal argument on a forum. Fourth, Feel free to express any opinion you have from now on without me or my quotes as part of the discussion. K, thx

Yeah flashing your gun as you described is a crime in Virginia and I'm sure it would meet the elements of similar crimes in other states. You would be going to jail in the scenario you described. Source, I'm a Virginia Leo. I had planned to stay out of this thread even after reading your initial post but apparently you really think what you did is defensible and it really isn't. It gives anti 2a folks ammo and makes other sensible gun owners look like the yahoos the antis try to make us look like.
