Road trip/vacation rig

Bought a 1997 t4r in september and have put 10,000 miles on it since. I found one with an on board a.r.b. compressor which has been kick ass for the ability to air down the tires when necessary.

Also has a 2 1/2" lift which has been more than enough to get to primitive campsites and trailheads.

The next mod. for me is a dual battery set-up. If you spend much time in remote locations by yourself its a no brainer. The only set up I've seen that would work for me includes dual odyssey batteries mounted side by side. The only other possible location under the hood is occupied by the compressor, something to think about if you're going to do both.

My gas mileage sucks(16mpg). I'll be replacing oxygen and a/f sensors in the next week and see what happens.

My gas mileage sucks(16mpg)...

After a while my gas mileage starts to dip dramatically. I follow this procedure (4th post down) and my mileage comes up drastically EVERY TIME. The first couple times I thought it was a fluke, but it actually works for me.

I just wish I could figure out what to do to my rig so it doesn't need to take new readings all the time from the sensors. :frusty:

If you want a cooler/frig in your rig, get the ARB frig/freezer. It's pretty pricey, but there's nothing else that comes close to it on the market. It draws much less power than other ones because when it gets down to temp, it just maintains that temp like a true frig. It also will cut power when the battery gets low, so you'll never kill your battery running it. The build quality is second to none too.

That's pretty sweet. I've been looking into those. But they are CRAZY PRICEY!!! I don't think I spend that much on my house fridge. lol

That's cool that they shut off if the battery gets low. I do plan on a dual battery set up and as I understand it the ARB fridge should run around 3 days on the accessory battery before even getting into the main battery.

As far as I am concerned the way to go is def. dual batteries side by side. Having to move the radiator overflow and all that. I like the idea of mounting the compressor inside on the driver side in the rear kick panel. Although I'm not sure the ARB compressor will fit there. What did you do for your lift? Toyotech? What size tires are you running?

front has fabtech coilovers, honestly not sure on the rear. Bought it from a guy who only had it for a few month's, not much history. Looks like eibach springs with rc shocks. Tires are bfg 265/70/16, good on road noise and have never let me down. Had a set on a 99 tacoma also. Just got back from Big Bend NP in Texas, lots of rough, washboarded out roads and everything held up real well....love the truck

Yeah. The cover on them helps a ton too. If you keep it plugged in at home and take it when you go onto trips, it will draw far less too because it's already down to temp.
