So I'm cruising down I 40 in Brockeverly's state and up jumps a piece of metal and totally toasted my side wall of those wonderful POS tire. I changed to the spare and headed off to find a used replacement on a Sunday evening. Tomorrow I will change the spare tire to the one that was blasted and put the used spare on the spare rim. (does this make sense)?
Anyway, the reason for this post was to mention that the wind was blowing hard today coming from California. The truck, which has stock wheels and shocks on it, was getting blown all over the place, I could almost feel the flexing of the tires as they struggled to keep the rig on the road. When I get home, I am going to put something better on.
This trip is a little over 4000 miles and I will be at Toyota Albuquerque sometime tomorrow to do this swap out. Oh, I destroyed the sensor valve too.
I'm about 300 miles behind, so there will be a bit of catching up to do.

As far as the tire goes, either buy a cheap used tire or one of the "New" tire of choice and tuck that under as a spare till you get back and buy the rest of the set.
 
Have fun in Flag. I went to college there for a year, good times. See if you can stop in at the reservations throughout AZ and get stuff on the cheap.

My woman is looking at some of the turquoise there and there are a lot of shops.

The Flagstaff Toyota shop is great! They were fast and did the tire work that I wanted and it only cost me $36 bucks because I have that platinum protection policy.
What bums me out is that they carry Cooper AT3 at their shop while none of the dealers in my area will bother too. If I time it right, I might get them on my way home since they have a buy three get one free deal November 1st.
I've gone through three tanks of petrol so far and have averaged 20, 17 and 22 mpg. The 17 was mostly Arizona which is very hilly. (also you can go 85 mph without getting a ticket) which drops the mpg down a bit.
I loved the traffic out of Kingman this morning.... None, just got on the freeway, and flew down the road. The thing handles pretty well at my fastest speed, which was 99 when I was following a group of people in a hurry.
Tomorrow, hopefully will be Oklahoma city.
 
Really happy with the gas mileage today... 24mpg, though the wind was blowing with 40+ gusts which made the trail bob around like a cork in an ocean.
I have a funny noise in the dash. It almost sounds like a odometer cable rubbing like the old vehicles use to have. (it may be).
I'm in Oklahoma and will be heading out to Arkansas tomorrow which is my final destination.
The last thing is about gas prices. I am paying $1.26 per gallon less than I pay at home. $3.23 here.

Well I'm back in your town today after the conference and have finally got a wireless connection. I can't believe the fuel prices here, are we paying that much in taxes?
Not much wind on this part of the drive and the Trail is handling very well though for some reason they have a posted limit of 70. Who in the world goes 70 anymore?
I'm going to hit my 15,000 mile service sometime tomorrow and will either get a service on the road or wait until I'm back home.
