Unless Rockauto sells an actual Toyota Tstat(the one that has the 'TEQ' logo on it), why not get the OEM one from one of the online Toyota dealeras, like Camelback in AZ. They really are well made.

This is advise from someone who runs a Radiator Shop and full service automotive shop. So not put anything other than a OE from Toyota in this 3.4 and this is why. If you get a cheap one for this truck it is a job to take it all apart again to get to the water put and take it out again. Anything that has a T-stat in a lower hose or in the water pump I always uses a OE stat period.

If I'm not mistaking it is a like 4.5 hours by book time to change out the T-Stat on a 3.4, remember this also, just because it is new doesn't mean it is a good part if it is aftermarket.

You don't have a dealer close by for the coolant? At that point I would have looked for a NAPA close by or someplace that sells Zerex Asian.

OEM for the thermostat and nothing else please if you love your 4runner. Gates, Stant, Motorad: save them for the American autos.

+1!!

thanks for your advise, guys. I have a Toyota dealership about an hour from where i live. I'll swing tomorrow and start the small project this weekend. As for the coolant, I was already ordering stuff on amazon and took advantage of my Amazon Prime Trial.

is that right? is my system wrong? I just looked it up, it gives .9 hrs.

id hate to quote one of these at an hour, and have it actually take closer to 5...

No, I think you're right and they're wrong. I've been wrenching on that V6 for 15 years. You just need to drain down the radiator some and then you can pull the hose and T-stat cover with no real problem. Three nuts and it's off. It sticks out from underneath the timing cover where you can get to it. .9 I can beat with one hand tied.

YOU ARE CORRECT! I was thinking something else. The water pump is 3.5 and with upper and lower hose it only adds.4 I show 1.0 on a Stat.

I'm not sure why I was thinking 5.0 maybe it was something else. I know when I did Timing belt I did it all at the same time so maybe that is what I was thinking.

My BAD!
