Rock sliders / Rock rails

Looking into adding rock rails / rock sliders to my TE. What is the major different between the Shockworks and Rocky Road sliders? I have seen some pics of both looks like the Rocky Road supersliders may be subtler? I could maybe use the shockworks advantage as a step with door closed to load up surfboards and such to get to roof. Also washing vehicle's roof easier.

What are everyones thoughts?

Rocky road cost less, they have a 2-3week turnaround on the product once you order. Shrockworks, you wait until they feel like making them :D However, both make quality products and both are bolt on.

Only one person has the rocky road right now (Eggstyle). Mine will hopefully be coming early next week. By looks in the pictures, both can function as "steps".
 
Rocky Roads are truly sliders too. They have rounded edges for slipping on and off of rocks when you fail at driving.

The Shrockworks are squared off. The downside is you don't go anywhere if you hit that front side when offroading.

But, it doesn't look like the RR sliders stick out far enough to even get a toe on when the door is closed. You will probably kick and scratch up your doors quite a bit when trying to wash your roof in the RR.

You can get a toe, but it is tight. I really like mine and I think the diagonal struts look very nice.
 
I have the Shrockworks Sliders. Whats nice when they stick out more is; you can pivot around large boulders via the sliders, They can be used as steps, they also will protect your doors from door dings from smaller cars. If your truck is lifted with sliders, then they will also protect your doors against larger cars, small suvs and what not. The Rocky Road sliders are nice, but I would rather have some protection farther out, not all obstacles are directly under the body, sometimes offroad, the truck will slide off an obstacle and head right into a large boulder. Just some extra peace of mind.

But yeah, 2-3 weeks lead time is by far better then waiting 6-8 weeks, sometimes even longer from Shrockworks. Worth the wait? Yes, but still....

Question: Are the Shrockworks useful as a step to help climb into the vehicle? It doesn't look like they will do much from the pictures.

I've got a 4Runner TE on order and the wife is going to want something to help her get in. Running boards are not in my future if I can help it.

Here is a pic of the measurement for exactly how far the Shrockworks stick out .This picture is shot looking straight down near the rear of drivers doorway,right below where the door weight/info stickers are.

It gets a little bigger,maybe a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch,the farther you go back as the sliders go straight like the frame but the body curves in a little bit near the rear doors.

If Egstyle or someone who bought the Rocky road ones,would be so kind to shoot us a pic of the measurement of rocky road sliders at the same place we would know how much farther out they sit. I really don't think it's that much.

Looks like you get an extra inch out on the Shrocks.

To be honest with you, I don't think either would be all that helpful for a little lady to get in, as they are almost as high up as the door step because they are angled up. They just stick out farther and maybe an inch or two lower than the step. Shrockworks guys have a shorty's opinion on them?

Either would be fine for getting to the rack.

As far as using them to pivot around boulders... well, post a thread on how that goes :D

nice job with the comparison photos, guys. they both look great and you're good to help others make a more informed decision.

Egstyle gets extra points for mud! :D
 
Ice Nomad's Rocky Road sliders appear to stick out further than mine, so it looks like they made some changes between the set that I got (the prototypes) and the production design. Also, his has 6 diagonal supports per slider, while mine has 8. Probably not a big deal. Those seem comparable with the Shrockworks as far as how far they stick out. Anyone else buying Rocky Road sliders will probably be more similar to Ice Nomad's than mine.

In looking at it, it dawned on me that he removed his rocker panels to fit the sliders on his SR5. This might account for the difference as you have a Trail Edition.
 
So just to be clear, Harper7 or IdriveAT4R, can you stand on the Shrockworks rail while the door is closed to access the roof rack? I put kayaks on top often and I want to know if these will work before I order them. Thanks!

Hey guys, how about just order a step slider from Shrockworks? Just tell him to make the rails flat/0* degree vice the 15* degree cantilever. I have talked to Shrockworks two weeks ago and the price is the same as his original design. This is what I'm going to order in a week once I get the money. Then I will go to Lowe's or Home Depot for an aluminum diamond plate to be installed on top of the rails.
