Rock Toy Industries 3rd gen 3.4 Turbo Build

Subbed. One day i will have money to burn. And something like this might be ballsy enough to burn it on! :p

If this works on the 3rd gen will you eventually start selling a kit?

That is the plan. We are going to try and keep it as clean and factory looking as possible. Obviously it's going to be more involved than a supercharger install but the goal it to be able to compete with it on price while still using high quality USA components wherever possible.

This also showed up today :D

I can't wait to see this in action. I'm very interested! I especially like how you mentioned the sc was already sold:) lol

I have always wanted to hear a turbo spool in 4low, there better be a lot of videos!

Yes!

Sub'd!

Videos, racing, dyno, daily driving, crawling.....

Got a link to any vids of that 87?

Next someones gonna have to just do both s/c and turbo! :eyebrows:

Just curious, what are the advantages of choosing the turbo route over the OEM supercharger?

To really simplify it...a supercharger is parasitic...in another words, it take horsepower from the engine to operate the S/C...just like your A/C or power steering pump does. Except a S/C takes considerable more power to run.

Just an example..you have an engine that makes 200hp. Now you add a S/C, which make an extra 100hp. However, when you dyno your engine...you only see 260hp...instead 300hp. Why?? That's because it took 40hp to run the S/C.

Now a turbo charger gets its power to operate by the exiting exhaust gases from the engines exhaust. Therefore, it doesn't use any horsepower from the engine to operate...and so it's considered "free" power.

Same example...you have an engine that makes 200hp. Now you add a turbo charger, which makes an extra 100hp. Now, when you dyno your engine...you'll see 300hp!! Why?? Because, the turbo uses no horsepower to operate...hence, the term free horsepower.

Therefore, it's more efficient to run a turbo charger than a supercharger. Now there's a lot more that goes into it than this...but that's the simple answer. I hope this helps you.

Cheers!!

It still takes more gas though, But I think it means you get better efficiency when driving under normal conditions in comparison to the supercharger.

Turbo has spin-up time, though, from what I've read, whereas supercharger gives your power boost immediately.

Thats not the type of efficiency he was referring to at all. More along the lines of volumetric efficiency, not fuel efficiency.

RussToy explained it better than i would have so :hatsoff: to him for his explaination!

you get a cool turbo noise, and it's different.

This is basically why i am doing it :spy:

There will be plenty of videos. We have a few videos of the 87 but not as much as i would like. Looking to change that soon.

Here are a few that we have.

Track day. Racing against a 2nd gen 3.4 swapped with a TRD S/C. Believe this run was about a 15.2.

And a burnout :D
