I was just thinking (for whatever weird reason) you were talking about a removable/replaceable piece in that area. ....not the actual body/sheet metal.Yes Kean, in my area we call them rockers maybe other areas have different terminology.Thanks for replying.

Ha! You would not know this at all because you live in CA but in the rest of the world the rockers are where vehicles usually rust first. It is a hollow area, with outer rockers and inner rockers and air in between. There are weep holes that should stay open but they get clogged with dirt and they rust. I had the problem on my '89. Alfaparts sent me rockers for an '89 Pickup which is the wrong gen so instead of sending them back I repaired them with fiberglass. There's a link to my build below. I repaired them about five years ago and just got it painted last month. The repairs have held and rust didn't return. Here's a terrible picture before I put it all back together:
