Im dropping it off at the powdercoater tomorrow. Hopefully it will be done this Saturday. I will post more pictures once its done.

Total cost was around $630 (EDIT) I ended up returning about $100 worth of unused metal and a hole saw bit I didnt end up using.

Steel tubing = $200
Notcher = $44
Steel plate = $120
Mesh flooring = $75
Misc welding supplies = $40
Misc cutoff discs and sanding supplies = $30
Powdercoating = $100
Mounting hardware = $20

Excellent work! I need to learn me some welding skillz. I feel so limited in what I can make for my rig and I cringe every time I pay 5 to 10x the materials cost for something pre-fabed.

Anyone can weld, but it does take alot of practice and skill to make nice pretty welds. I bought an Eastwood MIG welder for $400 and watched a bunch of youtube videos.

I got the rack back from powder coating and it turned out really good. Also installed my ladder and wind fairing. Here's the final product

Yep thats the one. I restored an old Datsun the last couple of years and it needed major rust repair so I got a lot of practice. Its fun too.

So, does your rack touch the paint in the front? I am looking to get a rack to carry all kinds of crap. I am looking for one that uses the factory mounting points with no drilling, and I really don't want to damage the paint (hence the rack for carrying stuff off the paint). I need this truck to last me years past the last payment on it.

When my truck grows up, I hope it looks like yours. :cheers:

I'm rack shopping, not an owner, but I believe Gobi and Baja rest on the gutter track weather stripping. Prinsu and Front Runner full length require drilling and a RivNut. No racks rest on paint though. Fairings can and it's recommended to use some sort of protective film.

I'm curious on how the Gobi and Baja ladders mount and if they cause damage.

Correct, the only thing that touches the paint is the fairing. Which I have paint protection film on the front of the roof.

My fairing sits just above the roof and the only time I get noise or buffeting is in crosswinds. Did you use the same mounting system?

Jealous of getting out, waiting on a part and going to spend this weekends blizzard/snow trying to be productive with my saw.

I have the Gobi fairing which I think mounts the same.Maybe its just a little taller?

Have fun this weekend! I was thinking about starting a rear cargo box.
