Rolled Roxy

Well there's a long story that goes with this one and some questions too. But it will be a long post.

I would like to note that i am OKAY!!! Thankfully!!!

So on December 22nd I rolled my 4Runner. Not my fault though. Girl didn't stop at a stop sign and i swerved to avoid her and then had to swerve to avoid the 3 oncoming cars. At some point my rear end broke loose and my truck slid off the road then rolled onto the drivers side and then hit a telephone pole. Lucky the 3rd car back in the oncoming traffic was actually a buddy of mine. He stopped just because he saw the rolled truck, then realized it was me. He helped get it towed and everything the two blocks back to my house. The girl that ran the stop sign apparently (because i never saw her) stopped long enough to say that her brakes 'didn't work' and that's what she blew the stop sign, she admitted fault, and then got back in her car and raced off. Luckily Someone else got her license plate number already. Currently though waiting for insurance to figure everything out and the police to chase her down.

Now I ride in a 1997 4runner 3.4L 5-speed with factory E-locker in the rear :D

Glad you are ok. Make sure you build your 91 big enough that you can go drive over that chick's car... "Sorry, my brakes didn't work either..."

Dang, Glad that you are safe. On the bright side at least you have a ton of good parts for your 91.

Man, so glad you're ok. That's scary stuff.

2Gens are beneath me so I may not know what I'm talking about, but I think the 94-95 grills are different than earlier? Body mounts should line up, but is it worth it? Obviously you'll have to find and disconnect everything that runs between the body and the frame - off the top of my head, there's probably a couple body harness connections, fuel filler tube, brake lines, heater lines, stuff like that. Lots of little crap to deal with, and how do you know the frame on the '94 is ok?

Changing the ignition is pretty simple. Changing the door locks takes a little finagling to do it without breaking those little plastic clips, but it's doable. I've never done the rear gate, I don't know how easy that is.

Damn!

Glad you can walk away from this one with a story to tell. Maybe when you're building your 91 you should consider a roll cage? Just to protect you from texting morons.

I saw a interior roll cage somewhere around here, it WILL be going in to my '91. Without a doubt. My 94 kept me alive, i trust 4Runners haha!

@FOG I just wanted to be more like you haha, I think im actually going to keep the grill, i kinda of like the more truck look to it. And changing the shell is going to be a pain, might not do it. Just a little concerned about the rust on the 91, but it's all surface rust. Wash it and undercoat is my plan. Suppose i should start a build thread for this new one since i never got around to it with Roxy.

You poor deceived fool!

dude i need to pick your brain now. Does yours have a sunroof? My new one doesn't. But that's ok with me, never really used my old one. But the back window has some issue going up (Roxy had no issues!!! Damnit) But i was thinking of just trying to lube it or just swap the entire gate, but then i have to mess with the locks, even though i want to swap them. The new truck's locks don't work as well as my other one. Because it's a new key with worn in locks.

Glad to hear you're ok! Swapping door locks should be no problem. Once you pull the panel off, find the cylinder and pop the retaining clip off. Gently pop pink clip off the rod on the back and pull the rod out. Thats it. The pink clip can be brittle in some cars. I've never had a problem, but it happens.

Damn! I'm glad to hear that you're ok. I had a 94' model as my first car, and I totaled it. It was my fault though. I was driving through unfamiliar area. I was talking to my friend while I was driving. I turned my head towards my friend (I'm deaf, but can hear thanks to cochlear implant), so I can understand what he was saying. Next thing I know, I turned my head back on the road, all I can see was a red durango turning off from highway, I swerved to the right a little to try and avoid it. But it hit my front end all the way to my rear tire. When it hit my rear tire, it flipped my truck over and rolled it at least 3-4 times and landed on passenger side. Apparently, I ran through a stop sign. The cop told me what I was going to get charged with reckless driving, failure to comply with stop sign, and speeding. But the cop was very nice to me, and told me that since it's almost christmas, he won't charge me anything! That gave me to give cops respect more. Toyota 4Runners are pretty tough vehicles, and I am sure that it saved my life. I'm glad that yours saved your life!

I'm glad to hear you're ok man! I know rolling mine into a telephone scared the crap out of me, the sounds were awful... But i walked away, which is exactly why I bought my second 4Runner, but it's a little newer, 1997 :)

By chance do you have any pictures? I'd be interested to see how these things do just rolling

I should still have the pictures. I'll take a look around on my computer and see what I find.

Hey so a question for you guys. Would it be better to part it out as is, or cut the roof and built a roll cage and sell it as an offroad toy? (I like in the PNW and such toys are common place, in 2 days I've seen 2 2nd gen 4Runners with the bobbed back and moved forward rear window with truck bed mod, and many others on trailers.) Ideas?
