Roof Rack Cross Bar Removal

Yes, at times I am mentally deficient. I have a Yakima roof rack with towers that insert into the factory rails for the luggage rack. However, I need to get the existing two bars, front and back, off. I have an 02 Runner and can get the wingnuts loosened up but not out of the rails. I saw in another forum that I had to remove the end caps but that was for a 4G w/ a different style of factory rack. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, my mental diffency and lack of paitence have conqured again. I called the local Toyota dealer where my parents lived and they had me come out to look at the rack. There is 1 torque screw keeping each of the 4 end caps on. When you take the screws out you simply wiggle back and forth on them and they come off allowing you to loosen the cross bars and slide them out. Be careful when wiggling on the end caps as they may scratch the paint while attempting to get them out. Hopefully this post helps someone else with the same problem. I will post some pix of the new rack later today.
