Roof rack fog light wiring.

I'm going to install my fog light on my roof rack and i know there are a lot of places to run the wires but i am just curios on where most of you guys ran your wires? Maybe it will give me other ideas.

I just drilled a hole dead center in the roof and ran the wires thru.

But you realize fog lights belong low to the ground (like under the bumper) to be effective?
The point of real fog lights is to cut under the fog at ground level.

Oh yeah i know but these are more like driving lights i should say. I have normal fog lights i am putting on as well.
And you don't get water down the hole you drilled? What did you use to seal it?

There is a good write up somewhere on here of someone who ran the wires up the door jam or A pillar. Much easier to do than drilling a hole in your roof...

I was joking about putting a hole in the roof, although some people actually do.
Going in thru a side pillar would be the best place. Seal with 100% pure silicon, not latex based caulk. Silicon stays flexible and doesn't crack like latex does.

I was looking this morning and it might use a little more wire but what about the rear lift gate? Threw that harness up top.

Pop out your roof rack rail end caps and you'll find that under there are plugs that you can remove, drill holes into and run your wirings thru....and yes use some silicone for waterproofing.

which clear silicone did you use to seal that wired hole, and how well has it held up so far to the elements?

Hey I used Seal-All, a general sealant and adhesive that you can buy at pretty much any home improvement store. I only had it on for about a year because I ended up switching to the better plug/receptacle, but it help up great during the time I had it on there. Never leaked and held the wires in place without an issues.
