I believe the rails have a limit also. I doubt that Rocky Road used any stock rails in those pics. I may be wrong, but they dont look stock to me. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Stock TE rails. I am sure they have a limit, but I cannot find it anywhere.

Got you the measurement:
From the side of the truck and rack, the height is 10.5 inches. That probably doesn't make sense....Stand on the side of the truck and measure from the roof to the top of the rack 10.5 inches. Got it?

It may or may not clear my garage then. I have about 8" from the rails, so probably about 2.5" additional, so 10.5" before the Rocky Road rack. I suppose the Rocky Road rack would hold luggage just fine on its own though. Argh.

I saw that thread awhile back, that is how I found out about the rack. Forgot that it had photos of luggage strapped to it. Thanks for the link!

I didn't read all the posts here (so forgive me if you're looking for pics of another Yakima product), but if you're looking for a pic of a Yakima Rail Grab rack installed (on a TE in my case), here you go (see below). Now that I think of it, I'll do you one better -- I have some pics of my TE next to Egstyle's TE and I'm pretty sure he has the RRO rack. My Yak definitely sits higher than the RRO rack -- but the Yakima system allows for wider crossbars that hang over the sides of the rails. In my case I keep my bike trays on all year long (and could easily fit 5 fork mount trays) and put my ski rack in the middle for the winter. The RRO does look great though and has the added benefit of built in crossbars in the middle of the front-rear span...
Regardless of which rack system you go with, have you considered getting a roof box? The Yakima Skybox series (or Thule equivalent) is a great option that installs (on factory rails or aftermarket round/square/aero cross bars) very, very easily and locks to the crossbars as well as locking everything inside. I just mention it b/c your initial post was about taking a trip with the in-laws and I'm guessing that the luggage didn't include gas cans... Even if it did, I use my roof box all the time for camping gear and throw all the dirty gear up top and lock it so I don't have to worry (as much) about someone stealing my stuff (yes, as with most locking systems it's more of a theft deterrant, but it's a little harder to crowbar a hard plastic roofbox than it is to take a box knife to a canvas roof bag...). Oh, and and the biggest bonus is that if you drive into a rain/snow storm, everything in the box stays dry! When you get home you just unload and remove the box from the roof (< 10 min). Storing the thing when you're not using it could be a potential deal breaker if you don't have room to hang it on the wall or rig it on the garage roof (above the garage door works great if you have the space).
I'd replace the factory rails for sure, but I'd get a box for those family trips as well. Just my $0.02.
BTW, Egstyle's TE has an OW 2.5 lift kit and mine is stock so the top of the racks look fairly similar (though everything else is pretty obvious his rig is taller than mine). The top of my rack will be ~2" higher once I get my lift installed (come on Santa, daddy needs a lift!)

The rack is sitting in my Dad's shed. I could get get a picture later this week. I have the load warrior(extended) the extended part hold a 100 qt coleman cooler perfect. with a thule cargo bag that fits in the other section when I have luggage to keep it dry in the monsoon season when I go up north in the summer to escape the "dry heat". If you want to see the whole set up I have the whole xmas week off. As for the height of the rr rack. it is 1 1/2" above the stock rails(sr5) when installed. Hopefully that will help with your measurements. If garage clearance is at stake. If you have any other questions I'll try and help with.

That would be fantastic man! I will be doing the megawarrior with extension so your setup would look almost identical to what I will do if I take this route. I would really appreciate that man.

Anyone have any photos of a Gobi on a BP 5th gen? Searched here and didn't find any. Found a few guys that have them listed in sigs but no pics of them :/

Thank you for the pic! Gives me a bit more of a visual. My mind keeps taking me back the the RRO rack, not sure why LOL. The Gobi looks great on your truck.
