Hopefully you can find something that will work out for you to help get the roof strengthened again.

Hey Whitson,
Are the measurements given of 84x41 the interior usable area dimensions or the outside rack dimensions?
 
Dimensions are outside measurements, subtract roughly 2 inches for inside. Wastedaccount, again, I hate I didn't know about your factory rack-less situation. The rails certainly help spread the weight of a load out. However, the rack will still hold more than the roof will I'm quite sure, I parked my drz400 on one once to see and it held the 300 pound pig just fine. All in all, I truly feel this is a quality rack and the price gets you more rack than others offer for anywhere near this price. Thanks for all of the interest everyone.

Here is what I was talking about with the side EXO/plating idea. It would mount at the bottom to the bumper with two bushings and same with the top.

This way if heaven forbid i ever get in a to close for comfort situation while wheelin I will have some protection on the one part of the body that I can't replace.

Plus it gives me a stable reinforced side to mount a double shear swing out tire carrier. (The spare is a 38x14.5x16 toyoMT on a doublebeadlocked Hutchinson at 150+lbs)

But ya having a way to stablize the top portion of it, would be very beneficial. Thats why I was asking all the questions.

No worries, neither of us thought about it. Do you have any pics of the factory mounts you intend the roof rack to attach too? I'd like to see them.


To anyone else, the rack is solid. I've been nothing but happy with mine and have gotten nothing but compliments on it.
 
The factory rails can be seen in the 2nd picture I posted in this thread, just black plastic rails running the length of the rear roof to which the factory sliding crossbars would have mounted. I see them pop up for sale from time to time.
 
I'm requesting one for houston soon. Mine will be a little different but if anyone is wants to split shipping cost, I'm up for it.

There wasn't much else and I think most were only selling the crossbars not the mounting rails.

I personally would look into making a set out of steel flat stock.

Hopefully that will help you out.

If your set on the factory rails, your best bet might be craigslist in your area (i checked orlando area but didn't find anything for you), or hop on Craigslist of make a run to the yards.

I don't know whether there was a response to this yet or not...

Any idea how much of a gap there is between the cross bars and the center of the roof with the factory rails installed? Thinking of mounting my Yakima snowboard rack to the lower cross tubes. (I can cut holes in the mesh to mount the brackets.) Would make it so that I wont have to add additional tubing across the top rails.

Also you had mentioned something about multiple payments and wondering what you would need up front and the expected lead time of a rack at this point and payment arrangements. Just a basic one that you have pictured with maybe some tabs for mounting a wind fairing up front so i can keep wind noise and resistance down to a minimum. (I can make my own fairing).

Hopefully will be able to get a down payment together next paycheck if not the first week of August. Might be able to split shipping with Arv too.

Same here, would like to have mounting tabs for a wind fairing OR we can just zip tie it to the rack.

Also a follow up on the removable cross bars (two), just wanted to know how you would implement it and cost.

Let's see, clearance under the rack is minimal. At the crown of the roof its about a quarter of an inch (from the cross bar, the mesh is on top of the cross bar) and near the rails, clearance is around 1-1/4". It may be possible to incorporate mounts or tabs for your snowboard setup, have to see a photo or two. Removable cross bars ok still mulling over but based on hardware required I'd guess between 25-35 each. Permanent I can do for 10 each. As for the wind fairing, I have mine zip tied and have zero issues. If you wanted lights you would have very little area to mount any type of fairing to but if requested, some simple tabs can be welded on. Thanks all.
 
Thanks for the info.

I guess some top bars would have to be fabbed to mount the board racks to at some point. Maybe something that could be added would be a cross bar at the front of the mesh part (with one vertical support centered between upper and lower to keep vibration down) that would allow the mesh area to be an enclosed basket. Have a removable rear cross bar that can mount the rear snowboard or bike or whatever attachment. I will snag some pictures tonight of my setup (May not be the same as others) to give you an idea of the space and sizing needed. I know the whole rack is 84x41 but what portion of the 84 inches is the interior of the mesh area?

Thinking how you have the "fence" along the outside to make another "fence" along the front of the mesh to enclose the mesh area.

I hope that makes some sense. May be an easier way to get one cross tube anyways.

Also you didn't mention about what type of deposit or split payments you would be ok with. You can PM me if you would like about that part.

For the fairing, I was thinking if you were to mount say a pair of vision X 14" LED light bars, have the light mounts be recessed enough to so that a clear lexan wind fairing can be bolted in and act as a shield to the lights. The lighting would pass through the clear 1/8 inch sheet. With how much the LED light bars run, I would think a shield in front of them would be wise.

your crossbar needs would be no problem at all. the mesh portion extends 56 inches from the back. As for mounting 14" lights, let me know if you decide to order and i will build that capacity into the front, as of now, the openings are 13-1/4", which would be perfect for some 12" bars, or smaller 4" units (i like the idea of 2 spots and 2 floods). theres so many different flavors of lights its tough to build the perfect setup for everyone, which is why the wind fairing will likely be left up to the buyer once he/she has a setup in mind. splitting payments is usually half up front and half when i let you know its ready to ship, but again, im flexible and dont mind more payments, just understand i cant ship until its all payed up.
 
Oh absolutely. I would never expect to have something shipped until it was paid for in full. Thats silly :D

I will do a little more research on the lighting. Interior height is quite slim so I will have to look for something within the 3.5" range. Width I would guess anywhere from 13 1/4 to about 15 wide is possible with the offset of the center supports?

What is the lead time on the racks at this point? 1 week, 2, 3? Gauging when I would need the second half of the payment.
 
right now i would figure on 2 weeks. also, the lights can be taller than 3.5. the layback of the front/top rail would let a taller light be mounted so as long as its not deeper than 3-4 inches, it would just stick up above the rack a tad.
