Rotella T6

I'm thinking about switching over to rotella t6 synthetic. I'm currently using Mobil 1 high mileage. Anybody have any advice or suggestions?

Rotel will have long term cleaning effects because of the detergents added, or so I've read. I am running it and got it from Amazon, I don't remember exactly but the price was comparable to M1.

I have rebuilt a few motors that ran Mobil1 and always found the insides of the motors to be in great shape. Since then I have always and only run Mobil1 in my motors without any problems.

I switch from dino oil to rotella 15k ago. Noticeable difference for me. Engine noise went down, revs smoother, and a tad more on mpg. I don't know if its due to switching to synthetic, but I like it.

Really?? Smoother revving, better mpg and less noise from changing oil?? That means you have a major issue.
 
I used Rotella for a while. T5 and T6 will not damage cats. Don't listen to that. HOWEVER, I switched back to conventional Mobil because the cleaning effects of Rotella are too good. If you're going to run it make sure you don't have oil leaks anywhere as this oil will make it worse, for example your valve cover gaskets. I'm now on my 2nd oil change with mobile and my gaskets don't leak nearly as bad (yes I need to replace when it's cooler in AZ are you flippin mad). This is all first hand experience, not any "my buddy said" or "I read it on the Internet. So the outcome is, I would run it for a while to clear sludge slowly then replace gaskets then run regular oil. More specifically a high mileage oil if your engine isn't fresh. Some people may be spinning their heads caus I always was a champion of Rotella, I still am, but not for long term use.

Castrol full synthetic. And I like it. Because TOMS supra has castrol all over and so does the Celica rally car. Must be a reason why Toyota let's them
Put it on their cars lol.
 
Some diesel motor oils are certified for gas engines, but none of them are optimized for gas engines. Don't try to outsmart the chemical engineers that make this stuff, use oil that was formulated for the type of engine you have.

Also make sure you follow the mfgs recommendation on oil weight as well. Some of the newer engines have variable cam timing and if you use oil that is not specified it can lead to the cams not being able to advance or retard as designed.

I contacted Shell and that is what they told me, i can't remember but it had to do with the deposits are not good for the cats. And they said not good for long term use. I have been using it for a while now, but am getting ready to change it out.

Depends on who you talk to with the Rotella folks. Some will say yes, some will say no, some will say they have to say no cause of the rating, but you can use it.

Straight cut RotellaT will indeed ruin your cats over years of use. Can't argue against that.

My point was that my stance has changed in regards to using it long term. I'd only recommend using it for maybe 2-4 oil changes to slowly and safely break down sludge/clean engine cause it does an amazing job at that. Better than any other oil I have used. I figure I'd give an honest stance since I was so pro Rotella and used it for over a year in my runner.

Simply, use it for a while but don't use it permanently.

Stick to the Mobil 1 HM. Unless you know you have a lot of sludge buildup.

Rotella topics start WW3 around here by the way. If you start a spark plug topic next you should be shunned to a desert island.
