Rotors keep warping

RS Dude hit it on the head. It's fairly common. Many upgrade the front brakes to the last gen Tundra front brakes with success. I am not a 3rd gen guy and don't know if that will work with 16" wheels but some searching will reveal the answer.
Brake rotor brand is huge IMHO. Be it a Tundra upgrade or just OE brakes high quality rotors is key. One of my favs is the Napa Premium series for an OE replacement. You would think "rotors is rotors" but they aren't. Be careful of cheapy Ebay drilled/slotted too, some are good, some aren't.
Drilled is a whole other thing too, many in the know agree slotted is good but unless there's a substantial oversize put in place drilled isn't "all that".
My advice is to try again with some premium Napa, Brembo or other high quality rotor and ceramic pads.

FYI - The Tundra brakes will work w/ 16s. I think the reason so many 3rd gens warp rotors is because the brakes are ridiculously underpowered for this vehicle. The small brakes must work extra hard every time you stop and all that pressure is hell on the rotors. I have not heard of anyone running Tundra brakes and still having issues with warping rotors so that may be your best bet.
I've been wanting to go to Tundras for a long time now, but all my cash always seems to find it's way to Toytec and Summit Racing first!

How do you rear brakes look? I'm wondering if you rear brakes are bad and your front brakes are doing all the work.

Don't waste your time with sub optimal solutions. I swapped in Tundra brakes off of an '06... and it feels like my truck wants to stand up on its nose, even when braking hard... going down a steep hill... at high speed... pulling a loaded trailer... while drinking a Coke! :thumb3:
I haven't ever got the Tundra rotors hot yet... and I've tried. They are too thick to even get any noticeable heat fade.
I used to warp rotors... went through two sets before I decided never again. I could not be happier with my Tundra brakes. $500 bucks and 2 hours in the driveway, and I wonder why I didn't get it done sooner!

I guess im lucky. I have had my 4runner a little over 2 years and I am still on the same brake pads from when I bought it! no shaking or anything. Im very impressed. I had thought about swapping to tundras but i think the rig still stops fine even w/ the big tires and added weight.

The answer to this question is do the Tundra brake upgrade.
I thought there was no way it could be that much of an improvement. When I bought my wife's 2000 4Runner the brakes were in bad condition so I went ahead and did the TBU. Holy crap is all I can say.
I immediately ordered Tundra brakes for my 97.
And then when I bought my 01, I swapped the brakes from my 97 to my 01.
It is the #2 thing I recommend doing to a newly purchased 3rd gen. Right behind changing the radiator.

They fit if you do the Tundra brake swap, which may include trimming the dust shield and/or modifying or replacing your wheels.

As others have said, yes the 231mm brake upgrade is probably the 2nd best mod you can do on these trucks, after a supercharger. The difference is huge and very noticeable.
