Route Suggestions? CA -> CO....no timeline as I am quitting my job 12/31/11.

Like the title says...

I will be unemployed at the end of this month
I am taking some time off to live my life
I plan to make it to Colorado where my friend lives to snowboard.

Any suggestions on check points of places to see?

I plan to drive by myself with dog Jada early January 2012.

n.cal or s.cal? coming through Joshua tree or Yosemite?

it makes a difference, canyon lands,moab,arches ect is easy from the south and yellowstone and various others a great from the north, i've done both routes so let me know where your coming from and how long you got, as really you can meander and take weeks to get there......

Moab- man it would be cool to ride it on my mtb and drive through with the 4runner.

As for Socal or Norcal- most likely NorCal but I do live in SoCal. So either would work depending on the timing.

I was going to say. He should head up the 15 through vegas and st george then go through zion. After that head back to the 15. go up to the 70 just north of beaver and head east. then drop down into moab for a little. Check out arches and all the stuff there. It should be nice and cool right now. Then back to the 70 and then west to grand junction CO

Are you willing to spend time off the beaten path?
Are you going to be wheeling you rig?

California
Death Valley in winter is good to see.
Yosemite will be cold and not worth it if your in a hurry
Joshua Tree has great camping and sets you up good to see Utah.

It's always a big decision. Wheel the 4runner or MTB.

I'm working on a rock solid horizontal lo-pro MTB roof mount. This way I can wheel hard and not worry about bouncing the bike off or scraping it off on a low tree (Kane creek). Or a rack that mounts high on the rear tire carrier.

This is one of those trips that you probably can't go too wrong no matter which way you go or what you see. I will say make sure you take lots of pics though and I must say I am jealous!

Gooseberry! Capitol reef! Moab!

Recently i have been hooked on utah! It is a big reason why i bought my 4runner. There is so much to do there. I know it has been said but gooseberry mesa is a sick place for mountain biking and the views are amazing! You get a view of zion in the distance as your riding over slickrock. I have rode my bike in moab and did the slick rock trail and it was tough. Gooseberry is got alot of the same qualitys but not as diffucult. However, moab does have alot of amazing trails as well....u should do both! Capitol reef is a great place too that is on the way between the two spots. Anyway have a blast!
