RTT full time or stored away?

I have been looking at RTTs and was curious if owners remove them and reinstall when going on a trip. I've seen vids on YouTube about people's efforts to store RTTs when not in use, but with increased truck height and the 150lb or so, it might prove difficult. Has anyone tried an engine hoist? The description shows that the arm can extend to 82" so it might be an easi(er) means of accomplishing of installing and re-installing.

(Not that seasons matter to you in Vegas) but I leave mine in the summer on for the whole season and get a buddy to help me put it on/off in spring and fall. That being said i'm looking at one of these to install in my garage then I can put in on by driving under the hoist and lowering it only when going on camping trips and raise it up by myself when I don't need it and store it suspended under the ceiling.

To be noted: Most of the racks sit very close to the roof so it a PITA to unscrew bolts/nuts every time unless you come up with a suitable "quick release" depending on your set up. A few guys on here have come up with different methods.

I just store mine in the rainy season but my buddy has had his mounted for a year (so far) with no problems. I have a hoist rated for 250lbs that pulls it up to the rafters but my rig is too tall to get it into the garage with the tent on so I just have a friend help. We can remove and install with two men. I daily drive the 4Runner but the 80 is where I use the tent the most at the moment.

Thanks for the input. Garage clearance is 81" and the truck sits about 76" at its highest point (factory roof rack for now). I'd love to have a drive under set up, but my clearances don't seem to allow for it.

Bimrunner, love the 80. I still regret that I sold mine last year!

Currently mine is sitting on the floor in the garage. I did have it on for about 2 months during our "rainy" season. Most likely it will remain on the majority of the year, going back on probably this weekend for an up coming trip. Seems to hold up just fine on all year.

I do hope that next summer I will be pulling a trailer and I will just keep the tent on that and throw that all in the garage so storage wont be an issue.

I do not have a garage that have the clearance for a lifted 4R and a RTT; most people probably don't neither. Hence not too many hoist implementation.

I daily drive the 4Runner but the 80 is where I use the tent the most at the moment.
