Rubbing with 33's and 3in lift :(

Hello, 2000 4Runner Limited. Have a 3in Rough Country lift with 33s (LT285 /75 R16), I also got aftermarket rims that are 8in wide with 16 X8.5 6-139.70 -6.

Everything looks GREAT! But am I rubbing badly in reverse on the back corner / pinch weld. I am reluctant to smash or cut the weld. Two options:

1 - get 32's instead
2 - get a 1in body lift

Question is, if I go with 32's or the 1 in lift, will I clear with this setup? Here are the exact rims and tires:

I can't give you a definitive if a 1" body lift will clear or not. But...

Have you looked into aftermarket upper control arms? When you lift it throws your suspension out of spec, by pulling your wheels further back. After market UCAs can put your tires back in spec, by getting your tires back to positive caster. You can even get adjustable UCAs by SPC, so you can fine tune your caster to what works best for you. If you have room in front of the tires between the tires and the front bumper, that's the route I would go.

Hmmm. Most guys clear 33" tires with 3" lift. That's like normal.

Maybe get wheel spacers ?

The BL will help. But you should at least first try bending the pinch joint flat with a crescent wrench and light hammering ( you can do it without pounding the crap out of it). The use a heat gun to try and mold the fender liner out of the way.

What's your caster amount on your alignment sheet?

When you get an alignment, ask them to max out your caster while keeping your camber as close to 0 degrees as possible. That should fix your issue.

Zero rub with no after market control arms, no body lift and just 4.5" back spacing. Complete turned locked and max flex I don't rub. I recently installed spacers too prepare for the 305/65/17 tires..

Thanks, I'll get it realigned, hopefully it resolves the rubbing. Are there particular measurements I should ask for or just tell the shop to max out your caster while keeping your camber as close to 0 degrees as possible?

The rolling chassis we purchased has exactly this set up on it....only with stock wheels. It also has wheel spacers on it and there is no rub. I'd personally start with the alignment and then try a set of spacers if needed.

Toe - 0 to -.10
Camber - 0
Caster - 1.5* or more.

Tell them you want the maximum caster possible without putting camber way off. If they can hey you 1.5* or more you should have tons of clearance on 33" tires and stock ucas.

OK - wheel spacers will just make that worse. And to make you feel better I rubbed there too. It was better when I folded the seam flat - until I went wheeling. Then I rubbed when I stuffed it until I put on the 1" BL

Interesting that some people rub with 33s while others don't. Did you also try the alignment settings mentioned earlier? Thanks.

Your wheel spacers are probably the problem. Try running without them and if you must have spacers then get a smaller size like 3/4" or 1".

I did not check them before I put the BL on. Assumed my alignment was OK. Same thing happened on my son's 1996

Get a bigger hammer. 33s should be easy to clear with trimming. Lift doesn’t matter. Your bumpstops still allow your tire to go up to the same height

Thank you for your replies, experience, and info, it has put things into perspective. I'm reluctant to just start "hammering" and my yota to make tires fit. Not "knocking" those who do though, by all means. Just seems like I'll be trying to make something fit that shouldn't. I'm really considering 32's as a good medium. Highly doubt they would rub and I don't think I'd miss the inch.
