"Rugged" Camper/Toy Hauler

Wife and I are thinking of picking up a RZR trail for fun. Before this I discussed getting an offroad teardrop trailer so we could get more remote and so she would feel more "comfortable" bringing the little one and newborn if we have another soon. Adding the RZR Trail in the picture really throws off concepts for building an "over landing" rig due to the weight. This is what I've found this far, it's not as capable but it's the best I've come across:

Anyone else have suggestions that wouldn't stretch the limits of the 4Runner?

Coleman Fleetwood E series are also off-road pop up toy haulers. They have quite the following. Check out the E2 or E3, I don't know weight specs so check them out.

Check out Livin Lite and Starcraft AR One. I checked out the AR One a couple weeks ago and it was decent. Nothing special, but workable. Not sure if it can fit a RZR though.

Carson Trailer has the Fun Runner Xtreme XL. I've only recently started looking into them, but they seem very customizable.

I've looked at those toy haulers with the front deck, but never could make it figure with the tongue weight. ~450# unloaded tongue weight

Check out Livin Lite and Starcraft AR One. I checked out the AR One a couple weeks ago and it was decent. Nothing special, but workable. Not sure if it can fit a RZR though.

Carson Trailer has the Fun Runner Xtreme XL. I've only recently started looking into them, but they seem very customizable.

That's why I'd lake to get the RZR trail that has a 50 inch wheel base like a standard quad, been trying to explain that to the wife. Most the trails she likes are standard ATV trails so the bigger RZRs may not make it.

The fleetwood EVO is still the most rugged one out of the box, but I'm pretty sure they have stopped making them. Check out living lite. The make all aluminum trailers (no wood or steel) so they are intended to last forever.

What are you going to be pulling it with?

is it the RZR or the RZR4? I know my 2013 struggled to pull my RZR4 inside a wellscargo 14' enclosed. your only option might be one like you posted above or the livin lite toy hauler.

At 3000lbs empty, you add a RZR, camping gear and water to this model and you are going to be very close to your max payload on the 4Runner.

I hate pulling with my 4runner. I have a Tundra and a GX, but the GX pulls the same as the 4runner (the way it feels) and my Tundra is a 2001 and it suck to dive too far away.

I've pulled the RZR with my 2013 a few times and it really seems to make it work VERY hard. The only thing I have pulled with my 2015 is the Expo Trailer and it's so small you cannot even tell its there.

More than likely the RZR 900, I'd like the XC edition but it's just too much and we are going to keep an eye out for a used one.

So I think I figured out what trailer I would like to use which would be this:
2016 Jay Series Hardwall 12HFD | Jayco, Inc.

The specs on this make it more friendly than some of the pop-ups like the Evo. The other benefit is the hard shell, a lot of the places we go to are in Wyoming where the wind is just a part of the outdoor adventure. Just doing a ballpark estimate of tongue weight with the RZR 900 in combination with that trailer would put it over 550 on a conservative estimate.

Really hate to say what I'm trying to do may not be feasible with the 4Runner. I've got a couple options.
1) Forgo the RZR and just get a trailer.
2) Vice versa, equip the 4Runner as a more overland vehicle to accommodate living space and just pull a RZR.
3)Look into trading in the 4Runner to the slightly expanded capacity of a Taco or......fullsize :doh:.

I miss our Tundra Crewmax something fierce, made several trips between Colorado and Virgina towing large loads and never once noticed the load.

Enjoy the unorganized reading. There are definitely options out there, but there will be sacrifices made to make it work with a 5000 GVVR/500 tongue weight. Or if you have $60,000... for an Austrailia trailer...
