It’s not quite that simple anymore. The active fuel management garbage causes collapsed lifters. If they removed that stuff it would actually be a fantastic engine.

The EcoBoost was only designed for a 10 year 170k mile lifespan. That may be part of the reason they're not lasting 300k miles. They were never really intended to. Ford published this when the introduced them and then took down the paper in it. But you can still find all the old news about it.

Hard to argue with the performance - at least new. The car and driver long term test raptor lost something like 50+hp by the end of the first year when the retested it. It also lost significant time in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile tests. I hope that's not reflective of the general experience with them.

I rented a mustang a few months ago. After a week I was kinda thinking about buying one. So I guess I liked the little turbo 4. More so than the nx200t I had as a loaner. I'd take a well built turbo engine. Might even consider buying a tundra with the turbo if the mpg is good.

My buddy has the same motor in his Focus RS, he loves that thing.

There was a similar article floating around about the nissan/cummins 5.0. Lets not go down the "nissan" road though. I might trigger some PTSD about my old titan

I'd say majority of stuff out there now is meant to last a certain time limit and then be tossed. Simply cause it's so cheap to build and people go through vehicles every couple years. (majority of people). Plus, business can't make money if they build products that are forever reliable and never obsolete.

The engine i would like to see in the 4 runner would be a V8 made out of the 2.0 TGE. Currently this engine make 169hp/151ft-lbs let say they will be making it with longer strokes since the 4 runner doesn’t need to rev as high as a Corolla so a 4.2L. Then we could expect something like 310hp/320ft-lbs out of a highly efficient engine.

True... I meant to put quotes around the word simple. But, it is still a straightforward pushrod V8. I knew the cylinder deactivation had caused issues on the 5.3, but had not heard about it on 6.2

If 30mpg is true I'll probably buy one, I like the idea of v6 twin turbo, can always tune the car for more HP & tq. I would prefer a crewcab over a full size suv. Itll be more of a family hauler and some weekend house projects.
