Running Amp & Lightbar harness through firewall?

Hi all,

I planned on hooking up my lightbar and wiring my amplifier on my 2000 4Runner today, but after looking at the preexisting grommet in the firewall, I don't think I'll be able to fit the lightbar harness and amp wiring (4 Ga) in the same grommet as the wiring bundle that already runs through it. So, my questions for you folks are:

1. What kind of drill bit will I need in order to drill through the firewall to make a hole for a new grommet?

2. Where can I find the right kind of grommet to use? I looked on Amazon, but all that I could find were completely open grommets, which would leave space around the wires I'm running, which I'm assuming I don't want as it would let water through the hole, correct?

If there's a better way I can do this without having to drill a new hole, I'd love to know, but from what I can tell, the only option other than that is running it through the existing driver's side grommet, which like I said, doesn't seem like it will be possible to do without leaving the wires exposed to metal, or risking damage to the wire bundle that currently runs through it.

Thank you!!

You'll need to run a new loom. I used a Daystar from Amazon. If you use this one you'll also need a 1 1/4" hole saw bit to make the proper size hole. Then some silicone in the grommet during install. It's way easier going this route than trying to fish 4 awg through the factory grommet.

Firewall Boot

Most amp kit's include a gromet properly sized for the power wire to pass through. What you can do is get a 2 gauge or even 0 gauge gromet, an this will give you extra room around it for other wiring.

I never personally use factory gromets for chance of cutting/gouging OEM wires. Just easier to drill a new hole and run the wiring.

I got 2, 6gauge wires, 5 12gauge wires and few more running through the stock one. If your 5 speed. There's basically no place to drill a new hole. If your auto. You can drill the hole where the clutch pedal mounts.

Or you can just punch a small hole through the grommet with a pointy screwdriver and thread it through like I did... no leaks either.
