Running power wire from battery to amplifier

I'm installing a new head unit and under seat subwoofer in my new to me 2000 Runner... Can anyone who has done it recommend a good spot to pass the power wire from the battery through the firewall to the sub amp? Thanks in advance

Your 4Runner should have 2 holes already present in the firewall, one on the left, one on the right. They have a few wires/bundles of wires running through them but usually have some spare space. They have a rubber membrane through which you will push your wire.
If it's going to be a huge diameter wire that won't fit through the existing space in the holes, you can also run under the body and come up through the floor under the seat.

I just installed mine today. I don't know if it's frowned upon, but I saw enough places online talk about poking a hole in the existing membrane and then forcing the power wire through, after taping it to something small/thin like a metal coat hanger. I only ran 8 gauge and it wasn't that hard to pull.

This is my first car audio install, and the only thing that I wish I would have read, is that the clips that hold the factory wiring come off so you can run your RCA/Power/remote cable through. This will get them out of the way when and keep them secured. I found out the hard way and drove a screw through the remote bass control cable, luckily it was only the remote and not the power cable. I found this out after reinstalling all the trim on the driver side.

Same, just enlarge the rubber grommet in the firewall below the steering column. Then remove the trim pieces along the bottom of the driver's door frame or go straight under the carpet and pop them out near your amp.

Also, don't run the power wire and the audio cables on the same sides, it can cause interference. So do power on one side, then audio cables going to the back of the head unit on the other side of the car, or at least under the carpet with distance from the power wire.

You can run wires through this grommet here pretty easily (between brake booster and fender), just make sure you seal it up after you poke through it. Water falls right over this grommet when it rains...

Thanks... that's exactly where I was thinking but was a little concerned about nicking the main harness,,,

If you don't want to mess with any of the existing harness grommets, there are a couple of other options.

There are a couple of knock out type rubber plugs that you can use. That way if you ever want to remove, a free junkyard rubber plug will fix it up leaving no holes.

I BELIEVE one is where the clutch master cylinder would be, I think I have seen others use this place. As I have a clutch, I used a knockout that is to the right and slightly above the throttle cable passage if you are looking from under the hood. A little hard to reach but totally invisible once it is done. I just put a small hole in the center of the rubber plug, force the wires through then black silicone up when done.

I seem to think there might be a plug on the passenger side also but the heater assembly inside might make this side difficult to use.
