Rusted dipstick tube

I just picked up a beautiful 2007 4runner Sport. First time 4runner owner.

I noticed that it has quite a bit of rust underneath and the engine bay looks rustier compared to what I am used too. I picked it up in Toledo, Ohio. The dipstick tube is really rusty and when I pull the dipstick out I can see that the inside of the tube is rusty as well.

Should I be worried about this? To me this is not normal at all on any car I have owned.

I will try and get a picture up tomorrow if I remember.

You can purchase a new dipstick tube assembly and install it. It's very tight in there so look at it before you attempt to do it.

Funny - same thing happened to me. I just bought a 2005 near Cleveland, and the dipstick was COMPLETELY STUCK! It literally took me almost an hour of wiggling, and spraying with liquid wrench to finally get it out! :dizzy: :mad2: Holy cow - just to check the oil! Let's hope the rest of things are not that hard.
