I am soooo sick of the black bed liner look. My Tacoma's bed is faded and I'd hate to have a whole truck like that. I nosed around the Monstaliner site and it looks like a good product. There's a mega thread about it on IH8mud

I'm thinking it might be a good interior paint for my old boat.

They make a red "Lady In Red." Are you sick of red for your truck?

Thanks for the link, I had read a mega thread on the heep forum, but hadn't seen the one on IH8mud. From the research I have done, and everything I've read it sounds like the Monsta-liner holds up to the sun really well, they add some kind of UV protection, so you don't get that faded or chalky look. There are a few testimonials from guys in Las Vegas and Florida who have their rigs parked out year round and the color is still holding up fine.

Yeah I'm kind of burned out on red, my last 4runner was red, now this one is maroon, I've had alot of red vehicles in the past. I figured since I'm changing the color of my interior to grey the exterior is a blank slate, just need to decide on a color! I'm pretty sure I'm going with the Smurfadelic Blue, only problem is they're releasing 20 to 30 new colors soon, so I'm trying to wait to make sure I don't miss out just in case they have a new color I like better.

If you don't run the blue/grey color scheme I may have to place an order at the end of the summer[emoji14]

Liking the smurf blue. How much extra weight do you think that will add? Was thinking about doing the interior of mine but don't want to add too much weight. Lift, bumpers, tires, armor, will be bad enough. Keep up the great work.

After reading a bunch of people's experience with using monstaliner on their exteriors on the heep forums and on IH8MUD Im not to concerned about the liner adding alot of additional weight. It hasnt really come up on as a big concern to those tnat have used it. I think that since it will be distributed equally over the entire vehicle the extra weight won't be that noticeable. If you're just using it on the inside, on the floors, I don't think you'll have to worry about it.

I live about 2-1/2 hrs north of Spokane in Evans, Wa. We're around 20 miles from the Canadian border. We moved here from Yakima about 3-1/2 years ago. I haven't been to Mt Rainer in a long time. I have alot of faimly that live over in the Sequim/Port Angeles area...need to get over that way this summer!

We didn't get as much snow as we did the year before, probably only about a foot, but it takes a long time to melt off, lol.

I can't imagine it taking more than 2 gallons to do the interior of my runner so it shouldn't be that heavy. Not sure what a gallon weighs but can't be over 10-12 pounds. It will be a while but thanks for the encouragement.

From what I've read 2 gallons should do the Exterior in 2 coats, one gallon should be enough for the interior in 2 coats...no worries about hi-jacking :cheers:

Thanks! Progress might be slow for a little while, I have to finish building my offroad/expedition trailer. It's a stalled out project of mine, my younger brother is buying it from me and paying me to finish it for him.

Thanks! The frame is a little wider and the tub a little taller than Adventure Trailers' base model "Chaser" trailer, and theirs weighs in at around 700lbs, so I'd guess mine is probably going to be closer to 750lbs once it's finished.

I just purchased 80 feet of 1" square tubing and a 5x10' sheet of 16 gauge sheetmetal to finish building the lid and fenders, I also bought 7 ft of 2"x 1/4" wall square tube to finish the tongue. I plan on getting some work done on it Monday & Tuesday, hope to make some good progress on it so I can get back to work on my 4runner!

Thanks! I started building this about 4-1/2 years ago, since then my circumstances and faimly have already out grown the size and intended use of this trailer. I'm sure once it's finished I'll wish I'd kept it, but if it wasn't for my brothers interest in the project as well as his financial contributions, I doubt I would have gotten my motivation back to finish this project, lol.

Someday down the road I'd like to build a offroad teardrop style trailer, or possibly just buy a pop up tent trailer and modify it to suit my needs.

250,000 Miles



Not much to update, I've put about 7,000 miles on the 4 runner since I bought it and it's running great. I've been getting aproximately 20-21 mpg average. I've put about 5,000 miles on it since replacing the radiator with the aluminum Koyo radiator and 2 stage Toyota thermostat and so far I'm really happy with the setup. I haven't had the temp gauge spike since installing them, my aftermarket temp gauge never goes above 190°

Awhile back I was hoping to get some Monstaliner DIY bedliner for the exterior, but that's probably not going to happen this year, seems like unforseen circumstances always comes up and the money I was hoping to use went to other things. I hope to at least get the rusty areas on the passenger side fixed before winter. Once I get the trailer project finished I'll get back to work on my interior, and get the rear seats finished up and the new carpet installed.

There's always more time for paint and stuff later. At least when you have money saved for something and unforseen circumstances come up you have the money to take care of them.

No plans for an engine swap on this one. I kind of did things backwards on my 86' 4 runner.Most people drive a rig for awhile and then make upgrades, I did the sbf V8 and SAS before I ever even drove it. On this one I'm kind of enjoying the 22re, even though it seems a bit underpowered at times. I haven't completely ruled out doing a SAS on this one, but if I do I'm going to keep it low, possibly try doing a spring under axel setup.

I was able to drive it home, I kept a close eye on the temperature gauge, not wanting to chance overheating it, but it was fine. I parked over some cardboard and surprisingly not even a drip from the radiator. Upon closer inspection it did make contact with the the fan, I have a Cresent half moon shaped mark in the fins where the fan hit, in one of the above pics you can see where one of the mounting brackets is bent...hopefully the radiator is salvageable. The fan shroud got pushed into the fan belt and sawed into it a bit, no pics of that. At the very least I'm looking at replacing the driverside fender, headlight bezel, probably the grill, turn signal, headlight and bumper. Depending on how bad the core support is and whether or not I can straighten it out and still have some structural rigidity I may have to replace that as well. In one of the pics you can see the core support/body mount looks like it's dented in, not sure if it's pushed up as well, it's hard to tell with all the twisted metal and weird angles, kind of makes it hard to tell, I'll have to do a closer inspection on everything after stripping it down.
