thicker wall would hold more heat -more actual material so more potential for energy storage (heat is energy). and the thicker wall cuts down on air flow, you dont need it that thick, its not a structural part and your hose clamps wont crush it, dont go as thin as an beer can, but man hallow that thing out some more... go to like 1/16" get some more air flow through that thing, you wont bend it or crush it. -to me it being that think looks really restrictive just imo
 
I just got a 96' grill to begin the Satoshi Mod. I started clipping the inside slats then sanded it down flat. I then began to wonder about how I was going to fill the areas where the slats were connected. I've never used fiberglass so that wasn't a road I was too eager to go down. I then began to think about filling the holes with the plastic that I removed. So I did it. I used a torch to heat the plastic so it was warm and manageable. After I filled the holes I sanded it down. There are a couple low spots that I need to fill then sand flat before I lay down the primer.

Almost done, FJ40 emblem is on its way. I've taken my sweet time on this grill and it looks pretty good. I think I've been working on it off and on for a month at least.

I got some Hella Micro Fog lights from Criera(Chris) and I got a oem fog switch from the dealer. Installed these today with the help of Chris. Still working out some bugs in the wiring. Seems the factory connector for the fog wiring harness has a short or debris in the connector. I blew to 15amp fuses.

Started to paint my wheels. I like how they have come out so far. I took a drill attachment with a coarse wire brush to remove the clear coat. Then I applied self etching primer. After that I laid down some "industrial enamel".

I hand sanded the center caps and applied primer. put down two coats on "industrial enamel"

Wow your rear end doesn't sit sky high!? I just installed some 8 wrap coils in the rear yesterday and the thing is like 40ft off the ground.. ... Er actually to the top of the wheel well is 40" with 265's..

When I first put the 8 wraps in I was sitting super high and about a month and a half later I was sitting almost level with my 3" toytec lift up front. Right now I have 9 wraps in and I'm sitting an inch above my front. I'm going with the OME 861's. Its a low height/heavy duty LC FJ80 front coil. I tow a boat and utility trailer and often times when I tow I also have a full load in my rig. These 9 wraps are too soft and I sag.
 
i wonder if it would work to use a second set of air bags in my when i put in my 9 wraps... i wonder if id still have good flex and be able to support a fair load...

I'm sure having the airbags would help when you tow. I'm not sure about flex but I wouldn't imagine airbags would effect the flex as long as they were not inflated. I think my shocks and 9 wraps are the cause of my awful towing performance. The combination of soft coils and old shocks do nothing for me.

Gotcha. You said the 9's were about an inch taller than the 8's once they settled? I might be interested.


EDIT: What's your hub to fender measurement in the rear with those 9 wraps settled? That'll be the key to knowing whether I want them.
 
I got it from Scotty at Addicted Off-road. I got the pre-sale price but I think they go for $500 now. There was a little mix up wit the address so it took about a month and a half to get once I ordered it. I took it to my local custom fab shop which I found out about after I purchased the bumper and had them paint it. They were impressed with the bumper.
