S#!TTY Day at the Dealership

A little background, my 2016 TRDP threw a check engine light about a week ago. Cleared it, since it seemed like it was fine and i just put gas that day, so i thought it was a loose gas cap. It was ok for a week then came back, and now was in limp mode. I scanned it and it threw out P2445 which had to do with that air injection pump that was implemented 2013 up supposedly.

Took it to the dealer today at 0730hrs and they were able to confirm the code, so i waited half the day for diagnosis. Got a text around 1500 that they will need to keep it overnight because now the shop foreman is looking into it to see if toyota will cover it or it was caused by "outside influences" which they wont cover.

So now im waiting for a call to explain what will happen and when ill get my truck back. My mods are pretty minor and certainly should not effect that system. Im not necessarily blaming the dealership, yet, im just irritated that its taking this long to get any useful info. I also get this feeling that the dealership is trying to screw me, or maybe they really are just trying to get the root cause due to protocol.

Well its 1730hrs now and havent heard anything, and i dont know when im going to get my truck back. Had to get that off my chest here. Its still under factory warranty till Saturday i guess, when its 2 years, but i do have some extended warranties. Hope this story has a happy ending. Stay tuned.

Any advice is welcome.

file a case with the Toyota corporate complaint department.

IF you sense you are being jerked around, file a case with the Toyota corporate complaint department. Give the dealer a chance, but don't hesitate to escalate to get resolution. Good luck and ignore those that like to put people down by name calling.

Stuff happens... let them do their work and see what they come back with.

Sounds like you are more irritated about not having a ride...

Personally when it comes to anything warranty or customer paid dealer service that takes over a day, I ask for a dealer rental.

More often than not, they grant you one. All you have to do is ask.

Also... that's not a S#!TTY day at the dealer, it's probably a pretty typical one. The dude that had a S#!TTY day at the dealer is the dude that couldn't even get an oil filter installed correctly without it leaking over his own driveway.

Good lord Chris..I wasn't name calling. Re-read my post, it was advice, wasn't an inference to the OP.

Now, name calling would be me calling you a sensitive flower.

Yea i asked, would cost me $45 a day. That dealership didnt provide courtesy rentals.

What it comes down to is just irritated at the situation. Didnt think something like this would happen so soon. Glad i was home at least and not on some trip. Another thing is that i just read some other irritated post on tundra and sequoia forums where this pump is present and i guess it made it worse. Im fully capable of just waiting to see what comes of the situation, but that doesnt mean i cant be irritated about it.

Well that's unfortunate... maybe they just don't have the rental inventory to throw around where you live.

After they told you they wanted to hold it overnight, might have been the right time to remind them about a courtesy rental.

Pro tip... do your Toyota warranty service at a Lexus dealer. You would have probably ended up with a GX to drive around. I used to take my Honda to Acura all the time, their snacks, coffee, and waiting room was soo much better, and less crowded.

They won't touch a Toyota... Many people with KDSS problems have tried since they have the special service tools that many Toyota dealers don't and even out of warranty.. they usually refuse to work on Toyota's. I'm sure some will do out of warranty work, but for warranty work.. they will not do it period.... for obvious reasons.. they won't get paid. There is basically no relationship between Toyota and Lexus at the dealer/brand level....

That sucks man. I doubt you touched it, so just see what part they try to blame. What (if any) engine/drivetrain mods do you have? They legally can't blame your air injection pump failing on a lift, tires, etc.

Fair enough... I took my experience from the Honda/Acura and GM world and applied that to Toyota/Lexus.

I regularly took my Honda in to Acura, and still to this day take my 1500 Silverado to a Cadillac dealer near my house for service, which included warranty work. Both were more than happy to accept the work.

Yea, we'll see haha. I dont have any engine mods. As for the lift its just the Toytec 2" TRDP spacer lift and wheel spacers.

Haven't heard from them yet today. Still waiting ill probably give them till noon till i call.

Well then...never mind. Sounded like a good idea.

Well. Got an update around 1030hrs. So turns out they will replace that pump under warranty. My service adviser said they wont get the pump until 1400hrs so i sadly still wont get my truck back today. He mentioned that after they install it they still have to check it out to make sure nothing else is damaged. So crossing my fingers. So far i dont have to pay anything. To be continued.

Just FYI, I believe the warranty period is 3 years/36K for this sort of thing...2 years/24K in many places for lemon law purposes.

lol seriously? Advice? Patience is a Virtue.

Now that they've said that warranty is covering, insist on your loaner. It's Toyota policy to provide loaners/rentals for vehicles that need to stay over night for warranty service.

Also be helpful to your dealership and remind them that being stingy jerks is bad for business.

You were under warranty....Moss/Magnussen Act says unrelated mods don't affect warranty.....they HAD to fix it.
