I would skip Knoxville and just head a little further west to Cow Mountain OHV. Cow Mtn. has a bunch more interesting and challenging trails, and an obstacle course.

There's nothing really that challenging at Knoxville. Just an opinion...

Also I'd love to do another wheelin' trip before snow. Myself and [MENTION=113049]rochmpr[/MENTION] just did Slickrock and Deer Valley off hwy. 4.

Anyone interested in Niagara Rim off hwy. 108? Tough trail with bypasses on the harder stuff....

Hahahahah says the guy with two 1 ton locked axles, dual cases, 40" tires and TONS of experience hahahah. Dude you're set up to literally drive to the moon if you wanted!

But in reality that Niagra Rim Trail sounds terrifying for me. (Based on http://4x4trailmaps.com/4x4Trails.php?Trail_ID=78) I'll be the first to b!tch out on that one man. I'm no where ready for those. Signal Peak was plenty aggressive and I'm certain somebody of your caliber would say that's a pretty easy trail by your standards. I'll have to get significantly more comfortable and work my way up to something like that.

But I do appreciate the cow mountain idea. That gives me time to test it out a bunch.

And all this was meant with extreme respect. Your rig was gorgeous when I saw it at the meet up couple years back

I'll certainly give you my take on it. We're heading out 10/22 (a Friday night, pretty late like 9 or 10pm.)

Seems really tame with a few spots to play in the mud if that's your thing.

And I think there are other trails that shoot off this particular one for more challenges. This one Just heads to a gate (private property) and then you turn around.

But the other ones might be cool for a day trip with a few people and eat lunch or whatever. And coolest part about the area is there's NEVER snow and doesn't flood much unless it's rained a LOT. So later in the year shouldn't be an issue either.

Thanks man , I was at Knox in a previous vehicle, just yer basic 93 Toyota pickup with an auto locker...

Niagara has bypasses on some of the difficult stuff, but yea there are some mandatory difficult parts. I think if you ran Signal you could run Niagara, jus sayin :thumb:

Well your confidence in me is very intriguing... And since signal peak I've since installed a TrueTrac diff (yeah I did signal peak with 2 open diffs haha) I think sometime next year I'll be ready for a Niagra Rim type trail. I don't trust MYSELF just yet.

I have a saying: confidence is great, cockiness gets you in trouble. And I don't want to be humbled like a jackass just yet.

So that's my way of saying I'm sort of a ***** right now

Honestly, with your ride with factory equipment and all the other extras that you have done by what I read, don't sell yourself or your ride short.
I did the run with Vman and Rochmpr also, and to me it didn't seem that difficult, especially lacking locker and gears.

Hell, I've ran similar trails (difficulty) with a lot of earlier gens when I was on 32s, mine looked like a Tonka toy to theres, and they where surprised at what I went through.

Yeah, trying to figure something out for 10/21 or maybe 10/28 or maybe 11/4 ... was thinking of someplace like Plummer Ridge Trail or the like in the El Dorado National Forest.

That time frame works great for me. Right after midterms.

You guys had a great time! I love seeing a newer wheeler embraced and encouraged. Everyone starts somewhere. Well done.

I did Signal Peak a few years ago, and it was enough to get me to grip the wheel a bit tighter. We opted to not continue to the top, as the slab obstacle was looking sketch to all of us, and one of the guys mentioned the previous alternative route was blocked. Curious as to how you guys made it up to the top from the Eagle Lake side. I still want to go back there from the far side, and see it from the top.

Anyway, thanks again...we'll stay in touch.

As an update we never made it. Uncle thought he found another access route and turned out to be completely misleading and cost us a lot of time and miles. Never even got there and ran out of time.

I still want to go soon, so if anyone wants to do a day trip soon let me know so I can inform the family. We'll be taking the "long way" since the short cut we "found" doesn't really exist.

As V_man said it isn't all that challenging but at least gets us away from the city for some dirt and open sky.

Well Knoxville itself is always open from what I know. We were trying to short cut to get there. The road on my uncles paper atlas does exist, but it's closed to vehicles. Only dirt bikes I think. So THAT route to Knoxville (off highway 16 from 505 which could have saved an hour) isn't really a route anymore for cars. What I was going to do at some point is go to the Knoxville area and then find what would have been the end of the above mentioned service road and see what the deal is.

It didn't help that it was like 11 o'clock at night and pitch black and we drove past the short cut entrance twice before finding it. And yes it was gated and at that point I was over it. That adventure is much more suited for a day trip at some point.

At any rate, no idea for this weekend. I'm not sure what the family has planned so all I can say is that I'll be a game time decision.
