Oh man, those pictures put a tear in my heart. Sorry to see what happened to such a beautiful truck. The major thing is that your wife and kid are alright. Even though it is tough to see, the truck can be replaced.

On your 2005, if your wife or you would like to start your truck in the morning and leave it run, maybe you should install a remote starter. They are great because if somebody gets in and tries to shift out of park or pop the hood, it will stall out. They won't be going anywhere with it.

Also, the 2005 nav is not compatible with the 6 cd changer. The dealer originally was going to install it in my dad's 2005 Limited but they said that there was no open port to plug it into.

I'm sorry about your truck. Your wife and child were lucky to be in the house at this time. These guys could be very dangerous. As you said it was in quiet neighborhood, this means that they were watching for you truck. I'm glad that nothing happened to you and your family. The life doesn't count with money; it's more then all of the money in the world.

And I liked the white with the silver trim on the 04 - have not driven the 05 but I am sure that the engine upgrades will not be noticable. That thing only had 16k miles on it

Are you planning on lifting the new 4R? I assume that is the reason why you dont want XREAS. If you plan on modding the suspension it will probably be best to get it as simple as possible.

A - Will not mod the suspension - have the offroad excursion vehicle already (see avatar)

Oh and get the curtain and side airbags, its a bargain at $400-500 for the extra protection.

A - Will be lloking for this for sure.

If I had to buy my LTD again I would question getting the moonroof again. I really wish I had some extra headroom in mine.

A - Want the moonroof, I'll put up with the increased BS so I can open it once in awhile.

Any reason why you're not getting XREAS? Besides being horrible to locate in CA, most people think it's a worthwhile upgrade.

I would get it if I could. I tow a motorcycle trailer periodically and it would probably be safer. I am not finding that option on any Limiteds here in the Bay Area.....

Great looking rig. I had a 84 full size bronco with a 4" lift and 35 inch mudders on it. The thing was indesctructible.

First let me share my condolences on your 04.

May the scum that stole and destroyed her suffer a slow and painful death.

About getting the 6-Disk CD Changer with the NAV...

That is almost all I find here in Southern California. If the Limited has NAV it also has the CD Changer. I'd call another dealer and ask them if your local one isn't saying it's available.

I have received tons of criticism for leaving the vehicle started and unattended - also talked with people who do the same AND leave their kids in the car 'just for a second'. It sucks that this practice is now very dangerous. The thieves are winning in so many ways. It's not a big deal in our case - we rarely need to warm the cars up for extended periods but I still might investigate remote start. Wish OnStar (sp?) was an option.....

One more thing - I have discovered that some states Laws dictate that you get cited for leaving a running vehicle ANYWHERE and your insurance does not have to support your THEFT.

Maybe check your practices. And remember I am 2 blocks away from Police station in a great neighborhood.

I just want the OEM stuff even if it is moderate to good quality. Don't want to mess with stuff that might cause probs with warranty.

That sucks and I can't imagine seeing my vehicle returned as a burned up hulk.
I never leave my truck running unattended since that type of thievery has gotten very popular due to the lack of effort to steal a vehicle.
Maybe throw The Club on when it's running.

Maybe it's time for a LOJACK on your next one for peace of mind (the pdf on the site indicates California has 5 of the top 10 cities for auto theft btw)

Changes in theft patterns

I don't remember the statistics but I've heard that both carjackings and thefts of "unattended" running vehicles are both way up due to the now-common engine immobilizers, chip-equipped keys, etc. I guess we now live in a world where it's officially not ok to leave the vehicle with keys in it for any length of time, however short.

In the general metro area where I live, there have been a couple of incidents recently whee kids in their car seats have been stolen along with the vehicles. They've all been found quickly and unharmed, but it's a very scary thought.

The immobilizers do really seem to work. Where I've heard about theft of immobilizer-equipped 4Runners, the only way to steal them was to tow them away (presumably in hopes they could be started after some work in another location) and they were later found, abandoned and unstarted.
