safe to put carseats in 3rd row?

Does anyone know if it is safe to use a carseat in the third row? I don't think the 3rd row has LATCH connections, so I would need to buckle the carseat in place.

I realize it will be a PITA to get the child in and out of the seat. This will be for the rare occasions when I need to put grown-ups in the second row and push the kids to the third row.

If its a rear facing seat I think it would be just fine, but the anchors are not there for the forward facing seats and I would not recommend it. Or I should say I wouldnt put my kids there.

*edit* - Im about 95% sure the anchor connections are not there. I'll have to pop the hatch and look here in a little bit.

There is a video out there of what happens to people in a third row seat in a 'rear end' type of collision.

Just use your imagination. I guess that would go for anyone sitting in the third row.

I wouldn't personally put car seats in the 3rd row. I would have the adults get into the back seat then put the car seat in. If your car seats use the latch system and are rear facing its literally a 30 second job removing and reinstalling the car seat. It would be faster to do that then wrestle a kid into a 3rd row mounted car seat.

It says that third rows are safer for kids than for adults. I found another review that indicates that the back row is rarely the cause of fatalities because both vehicles are going the same direction when they hit, so the speed differential isn't as great as when it is a head-on collision. I'll still use the second row whenever possible and reserve the third row for mother-in-law :
